A chef, a highly skilled culinary professional, is responsible for leading the kitchen of a restaurant. Many chefs have formal culinary training and spend the majority of their time cooking and guiding other food preparers. They are also involved in menu planning and are the supervisors of the kitchen staff. In addition to overseeing food preparation, chefs also coach and develop the other kitchen staff and manage the logistics of the kitchen operations, including ordering supplies and monitoring staff requirements and schedules.
