Plumbers are responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of water pipes, drains, and fixtures in both new and existing buildings. They are skilled at identifying and resolving a variety of issues and must have the physical stamina to perform challenging labor. Their job duties include the installation and repair of garbage disposals, toilets, shower and sink drains, and sometimes sewage lines. While routine maintenance is part of their work, plumbers are often called upon in emergency situations, such as leaking or burst pipes. As a result, good plumbers are in high demand and typically enjoy job security. Due to the nature of their work, they are often required to work odd hours and be on-call during weekends and holidays.
