The Birmingham Regional Paratransit Consortium, doing business as ClasTran is a nonprofit (501-C-3) corporation formed in June of 1997 to coordinate specialized transportation (paratransit) services in Jefferson County, Alabama and Shelby County, Alabama. The ClasTran Board of Directors is made up of representatives from the Jefferson County Commission, the Shelby County Commission, the Jefferson County Mayor's Association, Birmingham Mayor's Office, the City of Jasper, Social Service Agencies, the United Way, and one consumer. ClasTran's primary funding sources are from FTA Section 5310 (Elderly and Disabled) and FTA Section 5311 (General Public Rural) grant funding. These grants require a local match that is provided primarily by the Jefferson County Commission, the Shelby County Commission, Walker County Commission, the City of Jasper, Walker Area Community Foundation, the City of Birmingham and other Jefferson and Shelby County Municipalities.
