Thank you for helping us survive and thrive. Cooks Inc. in North Wilkesboro opened its doors for business in 1946 (see ad above) during a post-World War II period of tremendous growth in Wilkes County. Originally, Cooks Inc. was called Carolina Home & Auto Supply, and sold an eclectic mix of goods, including refrigerators and other large appliances, tires, and later on even furniture. In 1964, James Cook (the son of one of the stores founders) graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and began working for the family business. Around that time, the Cook family changed their stores name to Cooks Inc. In the late 1960s, Cooks added sporting goods to its merchandise mix. It proved a wise decision; today, sporting goods is the largest segment of Cooks business. Through the years, Cooks has evolved to better serve its customers. The store no longer sells major appliances, tires, or automotive accessories. In 1973, the business relocated to its current 30,000-square-foot building on Willow Lane Today, Cooks is a full-line sporting-goods store covering the camping, kayaking, biking, fitness, exercise, mens and womens apparel and footwear, just to name a few. Cooks dedicated staff includes a team of outside sales reps who serve high schools, colleges, travel teams, and recreation departments throughout North Carolina. Cooks also has an in-house screen-print shop, which can customize T-shirts, sweat shirts, and other spirit-wear apparel. Cooks ...

Photography: Photography is the art, application and practice of creating durable images by recording light or other electromagnetic radiation, either electronically by means of an image sensor, or chemically by means of a light-sensitive material such as photographic film. It is employed in many fields of science, manufacturing (e.g., photolithography), and business, as well as its more direct uses for art, film and video production, recreational purposes, hobby, and mass communication. Typically, a lens is used to focus the light reflected or emitted from objects into a real image on the light-sensitive surface inside a camera during a timed exposure. With an electronic image sensor, this produces an electrical charge at each pixel, which is electronically processed and stored in a digital image file for subsequent display or processing. The result with photographic emulsion is an invisible latent image, which is later chemically "developed" into a visible image, either negative or positive depending on the purpose of the photographic material and the method of processing. A negative image on film is traditionally used to photographically create a positive image on a paper base, known as a print, either by using an enlarger or by contact printing.
