Clarence Dusty Rhodes grew up in Flint, Michigan and developed an appreciation for fine food & wine after a successful career in broadcast journalism allowed him to travel the world. After retiring and returning to Okemos, he opened a series of businesses inspired by his love of hosting a great meal with great company: Elysee Boulangerie French Bakery, Dustys English Inn, and in 1981, Dustys Cellar. The Wine Bar opened its doors in 1987, and The Tap Room in 2002 by Dustys son, Matt Rhodes. A Michigan State graduate, Dusty was well known locally as the sports announcer at Spartan Stadium and as a 2005 recipient of the universitys Distinguished Alumni Award. His five children all worked alongside each other at the Cellar during its early years, starting a tradition his grandchildren carry on today. Matt Rhodes purchased Dustys Cellar from his father in 1995, and he and his wife Caryn continue to own and manage the business. While Dusty passed away in 2010, his legacy lives on in the sharing of great wine, fine food, and a good story with our customers at the Cellar every day.

  1. Photography: Photography is the art, application and practice of creating durable images by recording light or other electromagnetic radiation, either electronically by means of an image sensor, or chemically by means of a light-sensitive material such as photographic film. It is employed in many fields of science, manufacturing (e.g., photolithography), and business, as well as its more direct uses for art, film and video production, recreational purposes, hobby, and mass communication. Typically, a lens is used to focus the light reflected or emitted from objects into a real image on the light-sensitive surface inside a camera during a timed exposure. With an electronic image sensor, this produces an electrical charge at each pixel, which is electronically processed and stored in a digital image file for subsequent display or processing. The result with photographic emulsion is an invisible latent image, which is later chemically "developed" into a visible image, either negative or positive depending on the purpose of the photographic material and the method of processing.
