Garnet Hill Lodge was built in 1936 by the founder of Hooper Mine - Mr. Frank Hooper. Located on a gentle hill overlooking a beautiful pristine lake, with miles of private ski and hiking trails and surrounded by forever wild protected state land, the lodge is a unique and special location that offers guests and visitors many options for activity as well as rest and relaxation. Over the years, the lodge has become nationally known for the excellence of its cross country ski trails and programs. It is widely acknowledged to be one of the very best Nordic ski centers in the country. Since December, 2011 Garnet Hill Lodge has been undergoing a transformation under new owners Don Preuninger and Mindy Piper. After a number of years of less than adequate management and maintenance, the lodge was suffering from a lack of attention and care. As Don and Mindy took over, they immediately set about the task of correcting and improving the physical shortcomings as well as mending the spirit and outlook of the lodge. The spirit of Garnet Hill Lodge is to be a place that is a refuge from the pace and pressure of everyday life in the 21st century. While we don't try to be nostalgic for earlier times, we do seek to utilize those aspects of simpler living that apply to modern life and make them available to our guests. This includes using simple, wholesome ingredients in the food which we prepare from scratch, offering a natural setting for activities and relaxation, providing down to earth and helpful service and much more. It is our goal and hope that each guest will experience a deep and meaningful relaxation of stress and pressure during their stay with us, and a sense of life being lived on simpler terms.
