Lies & Bullis, Attorneys at Law, was founded in 1983 when partner Steven Lies opened his own law firm, after spending ten years practicing in Wahpeton. Lies, a former North Dakota Deputy Secretary of State, and his office staff of one full-time and one part-time secretary moved into their newly constructed building at 610 Second Avenue North, Wahpeton. At the time, Lies Law Firm shared the office building with McDougall Realty. In February 1984, John Bullis joined the firm and became Lies' partner. In the summer of 1987, the firm acquired the former practice of longtime Breckenridge, Minnesota attorneys George Korbel and Anthony (Tony) Gospodar. The expansion allowed Lies & Bullis to better serve clients in both North Dakota and Minnesota. In response to increasing client needs and growing business, the firm acquired the space occupied by McDougall Realty in 1988. In 1998, the firm acquired the law offices and practice of Hankinson, North Dakota attorney Paul Muehler, giving the firm the opportunity to better serve their growing number of rural clients. Lies & Bullis, Attorneys at Law, continues to experience positive growth in both number of experienced personnel and areas of expertise, which have enabled us to provide expanded legal services to our clients. The firm currently maintains offices in Wahpeton and Hankinson, North Dakota, and consists of three attorneys, two paralegals, and three legal secretaries.
