Neighborhood Health Clinics, Inc. (NHCI) has been providing services since 1969. Originally, the agency was known as Three Rivers Neighborhood Health Services and was founded by the Allen County Medical Society as a voluntary health service to provide well child services to low-income children of Allen County. Between 1970 and 1990, Three Rivers expanded its medical services to include family planning, prenatal, and medical referral services. It became the WIC service provider for Allen County, provided services from the Fort Wayne Medical Society building at One Canal Place, and began its collaboration with the Fort Wayne Medical Education Program for the training and service of family practice resident physicians. In 1994, the Clinic was renamed Neighborhood Health Clinics, Inc. (NHCI), and its services were expanded to include a full range of primary medical services accessible to all genders and ages. In 1998, Neighborhood Health Clinics established a full service dental clinic. In 2000, all clinic services were consolidated at the current 1717 South Calhoun site. Many expansions and renovations of buildings have been made since 2000. The facilities currently include over 40 medical exam rooms, 12 dental operatories, waiting areas, labs, offices, and meeting rooms for the provision of primary medica, dental, and vision care, WIC nutritional services, and other related services. Beginning July 2013, our insurance enrollment efforts expanded into a full service department. Our navigators assist consumers apply, enroll, and understand their health insurance options. In March 2014, Neighborhood Health Clinics opened a southeast satellite location at 3350 E. Paulding Road. Medical, dental, WIC, and social services are currently being provided at that location. Our optometry services began on a limited referral basis in 2016. Our full time optometry clinic opened August 2017 at our Calhoun Street location. We now provide comprehensive vision exams and glasses. Free parking is provided at all locations.
