Neiman & Company was founded in 1965 by Harry Neiman. Neiman's initial target market was Class A office buildings. By meeting the need for difficult to find upscale signage, and with a focus on quality product and excellent customer service, Neiman & Company's first year sales totaled $50,000. In 1969, Bob Hoeller came on board as a young apprentice, and would eventually become a full partner in the operation. By the mid 1970's, as the operation expanded, numerous capabilities were added, including screen printing and custom fabrication. With its wider offerings, the company acquired several key corporate accounts and looked forward to a bright future. By the 1980's, custom architectural signage was a well-established and maturing industry. More sophisticated designs were in demand, and signage was now included as part of the building trades. Neiman & Company had established itself as a valued resource throughout the Southern California marketplace, when Will Raksin, a young cabinet and millworker, joined the crew and enhanced the firm's skill base in 1983. Rounding out Neiman's varied offerings was the acquisition of a California State Contractors License in 1988 to allow for the addition of installation services. The company's client base had diversified further and included hotels, Class A office buildings, corporate end users, and theme parks. The passage of the U.S. Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 presented new challenges to the entire industry. Neiman & Company led with the development of new Braille manufacturing methods, while also employing industry icon Hanley Bloom. Hanley worked tirelessly and proved instrumental in defining how the new regulations would apply to signage. In the early 2000's Neiman & Company purchased an industrial building in the Van Nuys Airport corridor. The 17,500 square foot facility more than doubled the firm's manufacturing space, allowing for a paint booth, a mixing lab, and a welding booth, as well as comfortably accommodating its more than 50 employees. What Skills Does a person Need at Neiman & Co?

At Neiman & Co, specify the abilities and skills that a person needs in order to carry out the specified job duties. Each competency has five to ten behavioral assertions that can be observed, each with a corresponding performance level (from one to five) that is required for a particular job.

  1. Pricing: Pricing is a process of fixing the value that a manufacturer will receive in the exchange of services and goods.
  2. Customer Service: Customer service is the provision of service to customers before, during and after a purchase. The perception of success of such interactions is dependent on employees "who can adjust themselves to the personality of the guest". Customer service concerns the priority an organization assigns to customer service relative to components such as product innovation and pricing. In this sense, an organization that values good customer service may spend more money in training employees than the average organization or may proactively interview customers for feedback. From the point of view of an overall sales process engineering effort, customer service plays an important role in an organization's ability to generate income and revenue. From that perspective, customer service should be included as part of an overall approach to systematic improvement. One good customer service experience can change the entire perception a customer holds towards the organization.
  3. Construction Estimating: Forecasting the total costs of building a structure to prevent business loss and protect profit margin.
  4. Construction Management: Construction management (CM) is a professional service that uses specialized, project management techniques to oversee the planning, design, and construction of a project, from its beginning to its end. The purpose of CM is to control a project's time / delivery, cost and quality—sometimes referred to as a project management triangle or "triple constraints." CM is compatible with all project delivery systems, including design-bid-build, design-build, CM At-Risk and Public Private Partnerships. Professional construction managers may be reserved for lengthy, large-scale, high budget undertakings (commercial real estate, transportation infrastructure, industrial facilities, and military infrastructure), called capital projects.
  5. Project Management: Project management is the application of processes, methods, skills, knowledge and experience to achieve specific project objectives according to the project acceptance criteria within agreed parameters. Project management has final deliverables that are constrained to a finite timescale and budget.
