Transportation

Plum EMS provides transport to and from Doctors' offices, transport for patients discharged from the hospital, and transport for continuing care for radiation treatment, X-rays, and blood work. These types of transports are available to all the residents of the borough. The only requirement is that your physician must approve all of these transports as medically necessary, in order for them to be covered by insurance. Our non-emergency ambulances come with the same staff that responds to emergency calls everyday. This is the safest way to transport you or your loved ones for medical care. In cases where your insurance company does not consider the transport medically necessary, there is another alternative. Plum EMS also offers wheelchair van service to all Plum residents. For a small fee a van will arrive at your home, and the technician will assist in getting you into our vehicle with a wheelchair lift. You or your family member will then be driven to your doctor's office or to the hospital for outpatient testing, or any other medical procedure. The only requirements for this service are that the trip is medical in nature (no trips to the grocery store), and you or your family member must make payment for this service. Wheelchair van service is not covered under any insurance plan at this time. All of our wheelchair van drivers are trained in CPR and first aid. Each one is given on the job training in the use of the wheelchair lifts, and we instill in each of them an attitude of safe and courteous customer service. Plum EMS has taken the ability to provide non-emergency transports a step further. By increasing our call volume we have been able to increase our staff and also the number of ambulances available within the community. The money that is generated by our transports will allow us to remain in business for years to come.

What Skills Does a person Need at Plum Ems?

At Plum Ems, specify the abilities and skills that a person needs in order to carry out the specified job duties. Each competency has five to ten behavioral assertions that can be observed, each with a corresponding performance level (from one to five) that is required for a particular job.

  1. Life Support: Life support refers to the treatments and techniques performed in an emergency in order to support life after the failure of one or more vital organs. Healthcare providers and emergency medical technicians are generally certified to perform basic and advanced life support procedures; however, basic life support is sometimes provided at the scene of an emergency by family members or bystanders before emergency services arrive. In the case of cardiac injuries, cardiopulmonary resuscitation is initiated by bystanders or family members 25% of the time. Basic life support techniques, such as performing CPR on a victim of cardiac arrest, can double or even triple that patient's chance of survival. Other types of basic life support include relief from choking (which can be done by using the Heimlich maneuver), staunching of bleeding by direct compression and elevation above the heart (and if necessary, pressure on arterial pressure points and the use of a manufactured or improvised tourniquet), first aid, and the use of an automated external defibrillator.
  2. Patient Care: Patient care refers to the prevention, treatment, and management of illness and the preservation of physical and mental well-being through services offered by health professionals.
  3. Medical Emergency: A medical emergency is an acute injury or illness that poses an immediate risk to a person's life or long-term health, sometimes referred to as a situation risking "life or limb".
  4. Advanced Life Support: Advanced Life Support (ALS) is a set of life saving protocols and skills that extend basic life support to further support the circulation and provide an open airway and adequate ventilation (breathing).
  5. CPR: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) combines rescue breathing (mouth-to-mouth) and chest compressions to temporarily pump enough blood to the brain until specialized treatment is available.
