The Prairie Family Center (PFC) was established in 1997 to coordinate with other family agencies and expand community-based services for the underserved and at-risk populations. PFC primarily serves Kit Carson County (Burlington, Bethune, Stratton, Seibert, Vona, and Flagler townships). However, through need and lack of services nearby, we also help those who reside outside our County's borders in Cheyenne, Lincoln and Yuma counties. In 1998, Prairie Family Center and then 23 area-wide Colorado Family Centers developed "The Family Resource Center Association" (FRCA) as a statewide strategic alliance that would support and enhance the collective impact of the family resource centers in Colorado. Thus, the Prairie Family Center is a collaborative network of now-25 community-based family resource centers providing safe, accessible places for those in need across the state to connect with comprehensive, coordinated services that help them balance their own families. FRCA strengthens this network of family resource centers across the state, providing a powerful safety net of community-based, research-proven programs and services. FRCA also holds the keys to a centralized database system (OMNI), acting as the administrative hand that manages this vast source of information for each program, its attendance, pre- and post-surveys and funders' needs along with data that proves the services and curriculums we offer are very much needed in our area. In 2002, Prairie Family Center received the IRS-designated 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. Since then, we have received funding from various foundations, trusts and governmental organizations that help us offer our services to all of our community members and beyond.
