Primary Prep is a small, private elementary school that was founded in 1993 by Maureen Hoffman and a group of parents from Play & Learn Nursery School. The parents were extremely pleased with the quality of the pre-school experience. They wanted to find an elementary school where this experience would continue. With great effort and planning, the Kindergarten was opened in September of 1993. Primary Prep grew by one grade each year until it reached the eighth grade in the fall of 2001. In June of 2002, Primary Prep graduated its first eighth grade class of four students. Since then, empty seats in the classrooms are extremely rare. The continued success of the school can be attributed to the children and their parents. The school has a very diverse population that reflects the surrounding community. The children arrive at school ready for an interesting and thoughtful day of activities that are planned by an energetic and caring staff. The curriculum is designed to keep the children interested in the education process by making the daily lessons fun and interactive. Goals for success are developed early and the students strive to reach them. Smiles are a ready commodity of the children as they travel through their school years at Primary Prep.

What Skills Does a person Need at Primary Prep?

At Primary Prep, specify the abilities and skills that a person needs in order to carry out the specified job duties. Each competency has five to ten behavioral assertions that can be observed, each with a corresponding performance level (from one to five) that is required for a particular job.

  1. Child Care: Child care, otherwise known as day care, is the care and supervision of a child or multiple children at a time, whose ages range from six weeks to thirteen years. Child care is the action or skill of looking after children by a day-care center, nannies, babysitter, teachers or other providers. Child care is a broad topic that covers a wide spectrum of professionals, institutions, contexts, activities, and social and cultural conventions. Early child care is an equally important and often overlooked component of child development. Child care providers can be children's first teachers, and therefore play an integral role in systems of early childhood education. Quality care from a young age can have a substantial impact on the future successes of children. The main focus of childcare is on the development of the child, whether that be mental, social, or psychological. In most cases children are taken care of by their parents, legal guardians, or siblings. In some cases, it is also seen that children care for other children. This informal care includes verbal direction and other explicit training regarding the child's behavior, and is often as simple as "keeping an eye out" for younger siblings. Care facilitated by similar-aged children covers a variety of developmental and psychological effects in both caregivers and charge. This is due to their mental development being in a particular case of not being able to progress as it should be at their age. This care giving role may also be taken on by the child's extended family. Another form of childcare that is on the rise in contrast to familial caregiving is that of center-based child care. In lieu of familial care giving, these responsibilities may be given to paid caretakers, orphanages or foster homes to provide care, housing, and schooling.
  2. child development: Child development refers to the sequence of physical, language, thought and emotional changes that occur in a child from birth to the beginning of adulthood.
  3. CPR: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) combines rescue breathing (mouth-to-mouth) and chest compressions to temporarily pump enough blood to the brain until specialized treatment is available.
  4. Early Childhood Education: Early childhood education, also known as nursery education, is a branch of education theory that relates to the teaching of children from birth up to the age of eight.
  5. Professional development: Professional development refers to continuing education and career training after a person has entered the workforce in order to help them develop new skills, stay up-to-date on current trends, and advance their career.
