Through individualized and rigorous academics, as well as immersion in Jewish traditions, Torah Academy empowers each child to grow and achieve his or her maximum potential. Our caring teachers build each child's confidence, cultivate the unique talents of the individual and promote character development to foster lifelong learning and accomplishment. Torah Academy was founded in 2009 by Rabbi Shimon Zehnwirth with the goal of providing quality Jewish and secular education to Jewish children in northern Chicagoland. But TA is about much more than that. It is a growing community of parents, friends, and supporters who are enriched by the learning, events, and people of Torah Academy. It is a family, united around the foundations of Jewish life and education. It is a second home. Torah Academy's Early Learning Center features a Reggio-inspired preschool for ages 3 and 4, and a full-day, Hebrew-immersion kindergarten program for 5 year olds. Our Elementary and Middle School program includes first through eighth grades and features multi-age classrooms by design. Our graduates have gone on to succeed in high schools across the country, and we couldn't be prouder. We are accredited by the Illinois State Board of Education and boast a staff of dedicated, passionate, and highly-qualified teachers with advanced degrees and centuries of combined experience. Torah Academy's curriculum embraces new technology and ancient texts simultaneously. Most importantly, we teach our students how to be a mentsch. As part of our school community, TA regularly hosts and co-hosts Jewish programs and events for all ages (subscribe to our newsletter to keep updated!). We are also affiliated with projects that impact community life in many ways, including the Buffalo Grove Eruv and the Women's Mikvah of Buffalo Grove under the umbrella organization of the Suburban Alliance for Jewish Education (SAJE). We look forward to having you join our community. Contact us today.

What Skills Does a person Need at Torah Academy?

At Torah Academy, specify the abilities and skills that a person needs in order to carry out the specified job duties. Each competency has five to ten behavioral assertions that can be observed, each with a corresponding performance level (from one to five) that is required for a particular job.

  1. Bookkeeping: Bookkeeping is the recording of financial transactions, and is part of the process of accounting in business. Transactions include purchases, sales, receipts, and payments by an individual person or an organization/corporation. There are several standard methods of bookkeeping, including the single-entry and double-entry bookkeeping systems. While these may be viewed as "real" bookkeeping, any process for recording financial transactions is a bookkeeping process. Bookkeeping is the work of a bookkeeper (or book-keeper), who records the day-to-day financial transactions of a business. They usually write the daybooks (which contain records of sales, purchases, receipts, and payments), and document each financial transaction, whether cash or credit, into the correct daybook—that is, petty cash book, suppliers ledger, customer ledger, etc.—and the general ledger. Thereafter, an accountant can create financial reports from the information recorded by the bookkeeper.
  2. Accounting: Creating financial statements and reports based on the summary of financial and business transactions.
  3. Accounts Payable: Accounts payable (AP) is money owed by a business to its suppliers shown as a liability on a company's balance sheet. It is distinct from notes payable liabilities, which are debts created by formal legal instrument documents.
  4. Accounts Receivable: Accounts receivable is a legally enforceable claim for payment held by a business for goods supplied and/or services rendered that customers/clients have ordered but not paid for. These are generally in the form of invoices raised by a business and delivered to the customer for payment within an agreed time frame. Accounts receivable is shown in a balance sheet as an asset. It is one of a series of accounting transactions dealing with the billing of a customer for goods and services that the customer has ordered. These may be distinguished from notes receivable, which are debts created through formal legal instruments called promissory notes.
  5. General Ledger: Creating and keeping track of business transactions and activities to monitor financial operations.
