Unika Vaev was a small textile mill in Denmark that was the chief supplier of our earliest collections. The name - a source of endless questioning - means "unique weave" in Danish. The quality of Unika Vaev's products was apparent from the beginning, evident by their durability and richness of texture and color. In 1975, ICF purchased the name "Unika Vaev" for its newly organized fabric division and expanded its product range to reflect contemporary tastes and technologies. In so doing, Unika Vaev became an original source for contract textile needs. As the contract furnishings industry grew throughout the 1980's, so did Unika Vaev. Our collection embraced the newest ideas in textile weaving and coloration. Then, as now, the design industry welcomes Unika Vaev as the harbinger of fresh solutions to contract textile needs. Unika Vaev introduced its Archives Collection in 1985, a series of licensed re-creations of designs from the early 20th Century. The fabrics of the collection were made from original drawings, some never before published, and in some cases were woven on the original looms built specifically for their first manufacture. The result of this approach for both new and classic designs had an extraordinary effect on the design industry. Many fabrics of our Archives Collection have been used on the most progressive furniture to stunning effect. Conversely, many of Unika Vaev's recent, fresh designs have been successfully applied on traditional pieces. Neither trendiness nor tradition qualifies a design for inclusion in the Unika Vaev Collection. The only criterion is quality. During 2008, in collaboration with Instyle Contract Textiles of Australia, Unika Vaev introduced the LIFE Textiles® Collection of sustainable wools to North America. This collection is an innovation in sustainable textiles - products are designed to minimize environmental impact over their entire life cycle. Unika Vaev has expanded its collaboration with Instyle and now acts as its exclusive North American distributor for its ...
