Position: Wound Ostomy Continent Nurse (WOCN) Department: Wound Care Schedule: 24 hours, Days POSITION SUMMARY: The Wound/Ostomy/Continent (WOC) Nurse provides direct patient care, consults and collaborates with other members of the health care team for patients with new and existing ostomies, wounds, fistulas, pressure ulcers, tubes and incontinence issues. The WOC coordinates treatment to provide comprehensive wound assessments and plan of care including goals, implementation of treatment, evaluation and outcomes for patients. The WOC Nurse is responsible for preoperative and postoperative education for patients with urinary and/or fecal diversion. The WOC nurse develops and implements evidence based clinical guidelines and/or resources for staff based on national standards. The WOC nurse coordinates and participates in the education of nursing and medical staff regarding wound management and the prevention of pressure ulcers, support surfaces, dressing selection and other therapies.
