Waterman Village was established and opened for occupancy in 1989 as part of Waterman Health Care Systems, Inc. It became independent of the Hospital in October 1992 to become a part of Waterman Communities, Inc., a not-for-profit corporation. Waterman Village is the only full-service retirement community (offers independent living, assisted living, and a skilled nursing facility) in Lake County Florida, and one of only a few in Central Florida, that's both not-for-profit owned, and not-for-profit managed. In 2014, over one million dollars were spent on campus improvements. The end of fiscal year 2014 saw the organization experience an excess of revenues over expenses of just over a half-million dollars, which is being re-invested right back into the community/organization. Plans for 2015 include: continued refurbishing of Villa Homes, enhancements to The Lodge common and dining areas, on-going landscaping improvements, and the updating of the Bridgewater Assisted Living Apartment and Edgewater Skilled Nursing Facility common areas. The Waterman Communities Foundation is a 501(c)(3) federally approved not-for-profit organization which supports Waterman Village residents in need. Its goal is to raise money to help support the residents of Waterman Village and provide them with a full and active life, so they can continue to "Live Their Best Lives". Having worked in not-for-profit retirement communities like Waterman Village for many years, I can testify that gifts to Waterman Village of any type, have a direct/enormous impact on the quality of lives and overall well-being of our residents who not only live at Waterman Village now, but, in the years to come as well.
