Requirements and Responsibilities

Biomedical Engineering Supervisor supervises and coordinates day to day engineering and scientific research and design projects to develop medical technologies and devices to support and enhance patient care and improve healthcare outcomes. Facilitates research and testing efforts to address specific medical conditions, improve the performance of existing devices, and develop new products. Being a Biomedical Engineering Supervisor provides oversight and frameworks for collaboration with medical professionals to envision new products and gather information for product specifications. Ensures that designs and devices meet regulatory, safety, and quality requirements and standards, such as the FDA regulations and ISO standards. Additionally, Biomedical Engineering Supervisor utilizes or develops software to perform testing or integrate with devices. Requires a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering or a related engineering or science discipline. Typically reports to a manager. The Biomedical Engineering Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Biomedical Engineering Supervisor typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Thorough knowledge of functional area and department processes.
