Requirements and Responsibilities

Product Development Director oversees and implements product development policies, objectives, and initiatives. Leads research for new products, product enhancements, and product redesign. Being a Product Development Director evaluates the potential and practicality of products in development. Requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Product Development Director demonstrates expertise in a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Typically reports to top management. The Product Development Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Product Development Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.
