Requirements and Responsibilities

Senior Test Pilot pilots aircraft to test features and functionality and to ensure compliance with federal regulations and product specifications. Ensures operational functionality and pilot and passenger safety. Being a Senior Test Pilot recommends changes to cockpit or aircraft to better meet the pilot's needs or to improve flight. Performs maneuvers and procedures to test features or modifications. Additionally, Senior Test Pilot may pilot demonstrations for officials or customers. May require a bachelor's degree. Requires FAA Commercial Pilot's License with necessary ratings. Typically reports to a manager. The Senior Test Pilot work is highly independent. May assume a team lead role for the work group. A specialist on complex technical and business matters. To be a Senior Test Pilot typically requires 7+ years of related experience.
