Requirements and Responsibilities

Special Events Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing all aspects of special events from conception through execution. Defines the event goals, manages budget, selects venues, and oversees logistics such as seating, dining, decorations, and catering. Being a Special Events Manager negotiates contracts and obtains competitive bids from vendors to ensure the lowest bid with the highest quality of service and products. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Special Events Manager typically reports to a director. The Special Events Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Special Events Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required. Extensive knowledge of the function and department processes.
