  • Under the direct supervision of the Vice President of Student Enrollment Services, the Career Services Director supports the mission, goals, and objectives of The Moody Bible Institute of Chicago and provides ongoing career services support for MBI students and alumni, primarily through but not limited to the development of ministry and job search resources, internship ideas, career transition strategies, and career counseling.

    Essential Functions

    Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

    • Provide career and vocational development and counseling opportunities through individual appointments, workshops, and classroom settings.
    • Provide training and coaching on cover letter and resume writing, job searching, interviewing, and networking.
    • Obtain information about job and internship vacancies from churches, Christian organizations, agencies, schools, and other employers to meet the current needs of alumni and students.
    • Maintain regular, positive contact with prospective employers through correspondence and personal visits and maintain a referral service with vetted employers, including but not limited to churches, Christian organizations, and friends of MBI.
    • Assist alumni and current students in locating information regarding employers, fields of study, career tracts, and graduate schools. This includes maintaining a Job Board.
    • Organize and implement career fairs, networking opportunities, and hiring events.
    • Provide Career Services that serve all MBI students and are available in-person and virtually, synchronously and asynchronously.
    • Publicize the available career services to current students and alumni through print media, radio ministry, digital resources, correspondence, and personal contact.
    • Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with students, alumni, faculty, staff, departments across campus, and employers related to MBI Career Services.
    • Maintain the MBI Career Services Website.
    • Assist in developing the Career Services budget, supervise expenditures, and maintain fiscal responsibility.
    • Oversee surveys, maintain records, and analyze data related to MBI placement rates, First Destination Survey, and Financial Value Transparency and Gainful Employment reporting requirements.
    • Stay informed of the latest research and current trends in Higher Education Career Services, employment, and career fields through the study of literature and contact with other professionals in the field.
    • Perform special and related duties as assigned.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Master’s degree in a Ministry-related or career services-related field.
    • Three years of professional experience in a university/college setting and/or human resources department.
    • Experience and qualifications in career and vocational coaching, career development skills, and job trends.
    • An outgoing, customer-oriented personality with a track record of effective networking and collaboration.
    • Proven ability to interact with and present material to current students, alumni, and potential employers in a relevant
    • Experience in marketing and event planning, with demonstrable proficiency with social media, included but not limited to LinkedIn and Handshake.
    • A broad knowledge base of Church ministries, Christian organizations, and graduate schools around the country and the
    • An excellent verbal and written communicator.
    • Authorized to work in the US legally without sponsorship

    This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

    The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

    This is a full-time position: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Occasional weekend and possible evening hours; some travel required.
