Charge Nurse plans, directs, and evaluates the overall nursing care and functions in a particular nursing unit or during an assigned shift. Coordinates the activities of the unit and directs, organizes, and assigns work to the nursing staff. Being a Charge Nurse assesses, monitors, and educates the nursing staff on patient care. Institutes emergency procedures as necessary. Additionally, Charge Nurse requires a bachelor's degree. Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Charge Nurse supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. To be a Charge Nurse typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Position Summary:
An experienced registered nurse who is a role model and leader. Responsible for the operation of select nursing departments over a specific time period. Strong foundation of clinical knowledge and decision making skills. Requires strong organizational abilities and interpersonal skills that are critical to facilitate communications and collaboration. Sustains a culture of safety, quality, professionalism, and collaboration supporting the Middlesex Health mission and vision and the Department of Nursing vision and strategic plan.
Minimum Qualifications:- A Registered Nurse who is a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing, currently licensed to practice nursing in the State of Connecticut
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing required (new to the role after January 1, 2019)
- Professional Nursing Certification in Leadership Certification within two years
