Manager Philanthropic Communications and Public Relations

  • Summary:
    Successfully coordinate and implement specific public relations, marketing and branding activities to enhance the visibility of Family Services Inc., and to meet agency fundraising goals.
    Works with the Vice President of Philanthropy and Public Relations and other key institutional stakeholders to identify and translate Family Services (FS) storytelling opportunities and impact into creative print, digital and social media content. Serve as proactive “person-on-the-ground” community storyteller, regularly visiting and documenting Head Start classrooms, agency activities and services, community events, etc. to surface and deliver visual, digital, and written stories that support the FS brand and strategic goals. Produce high-performing written, social, and multimedia (audio/video/photo/interactive/graphic) content that advances FS brand engagement/awareness and furthers FS strategic goals through robust external promotional stories, social media-optimized mini-stories, and engaging internal communications.
    Essential Functions:
    • Ensures that all marketing materials (written, verbal, web, or digital) have a unified and consistent message and format. This includes, but is not limited to, writing and designing fundraising materials, donor stewardship materials, annual reports, newsletters, website, press releases and agency collateral.
    • Manages, coordinates and executes delivery of internal and external written and digital content/emails with timeliness.
    • Establishes and maintains budgets for printing and other collateral materials.
    • Responsible for coordinating, with supervisor, the development and implementation of a strategic communications plan that is specific to agency fundraising, and agency public relations goals.
    • Assists supervisor as requested with public relations pitches, briefing memos, internal communications, press releases, interviews, and media kits.
    • Manages the Family Services web site, including content, design, staff training, and management of on-line giving, online fundraising strategies, giving opportunities, agency news, and updates.
    • Assists with gaining media attention, enhancing public relations, and building the Family Services brand.
    • Assists with development of materials for all Family Services publicity and special events (i.e. invitations, program booklets, signage and promotional materials).
    • Stays current on the use of social media to meet fundraising, communications and marketing goals and implements consistent use of social media within communications strategy.
    • Maintains professional competency by participating in field related continued training, education and personal growth experiences.
    • Performs other duties as incumbent upon the position and as assigned.
    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    • Bachelor’s degree; or its equivalent work experience.
    • Minimum of 5 years marketing or communications experience in a fundraising office or equivalent.
    • High computer aptitude. Knowledge of how Raiser’s Edge NXT software interfaces with external communications a plus.
    • Ability to use and/or direct graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Apple Pages, Acrobat, Adobe Premier, WordPress Gutenberg, Final Cut, etc.
    • Strong proof-reading skills, familiarity with AP and Chicago styles.
    • Ability to research and develop new communications programs to support agency fundraising and other division needs.
    • Proven track record with fundraising communications tactics and strategies.
    • Open, participatory, and flexible regarding new, proven trends in delivery of fundraising communications strategies and methods.
    • Ability to articulate ideas clearly (both written and orally), listen accurately, and establish personal rapport with people from a variety of backgrounds.
    • Maintains dignity and self-control in stressful situations.
    • Objective about personal strengths and limitations.
    • Proven logical, systematic, integrative, conceptualizing thought process.
    Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
    • Maintains physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following: walking, bending, stretching, lifting, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, operating assigned equipment.
    • Ability to work flexible/overtime hours, including evenings and some weekends, as needed.
    • Requires valid NC driver’s license and ability to travel between various agency sites and community resources.
