  • Job Purpose/Summary: The position manages the financial reporting process, including the internal monthly and quarterly preparation of the financial statements (income statement, balance sheet & statement of cash flows), the annual preparation of the audited financial statements and related footnotes, regulatory reports and quarterly debt compliance certifications. The position assists with the preparation of materials for the board of directors and leadership on financial data and analyses. The position also researches, writes and concludes on all technical accounting matters, drives the implementation of new accounting standards, including the revenue and lease standards, oversight of internal controls over financial reporting procedures and manages the external audit process. This position receives very general guidance with respect to overall objectives; work is usually quite independent of others; operates within the accounting department guidelines using independent judgement in achieving assigned objectives. Essential Functions: * Responsible for financial reporting process including monthly preparation of the financial statements (income statement, balance sheet & statement of cash flows), submission of the financials to Saltchuk through Host, responding to ad hoc financial request and the balancing of the financial systems/sources. * Responsible for the internal financial reporting package, dashboard and KPIs. * Responsible for the financial reporting process for regulatory reporting. * Responsible for the preparation of the quarterly debt compliance certifications. * Assists with the preparation of board materials. * Management of the annual external audit, including preparation of quarterly updates, management of the interim reviews (2), final fieldwork and reporting process and the preparation of the audited financial statements (income statements, balance sheets, cash flows and related footnotes. * Writes memos, which includes background, technical support and conclusions for all technical accounting matters and drives the implementation of new accounting standards, including the revenue and lease standards. * Ad hoc financial reporting and analysis requests, including the completion of the annual tax packages. * Oversight of certain internal control procedures. * Effectively communicates department goals and objectives. * Provides direction and leadership to achieve company Core Values, Mission and Safety Vision. * Performs special duties and other projects as assigned. * Adheres to all company policies. * Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: * Critical/analytical skills and systems analysis/evaluation. * Strong knowledge of accounting and GAAP principles. * Strong knowledge and demonstrated use of Excel, Microsoft applications, and Tier 1 accounting systems (SAP preferred). * Proficient personal computer skills including email, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics etc. * Excellent oral and written comprehension and expression. * Aptitude to be detail oriented when necessary. * Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plan. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportion to practical situations. * Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables. * Ability to multi-task and handle multiple projects. * Ability to prioritize, organize and delegate assignments. * Ability to solve programs, whether through the use of financial systems, financial analysis or other methods. * Must be creative and exercise excellent judgment due to changing conditions. Minimum Qualifications: This position requires a Bachelor's degree in accounting plus a minimum of five years of related experience. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is highly preferred. Requires a strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting preparation, and other elements of the financial reporting process. Working Conditions: Work is mostly performed in a normal office environment. May be required to work more than a normal workweek, including weekends. Job involves a high degree of complexity and wide diversity of work situations. This position is given considerable latitude in resolving programs, determining own practices and procedures, and developing new concepts. Minimum overnight travel. Regular and predictable attendance is a requirement. Physical/Mental Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The workday usually has a high number of interruptions and priority changes necessitating the need to remain flexible and focused in order to accomplish tasks. This position frequently requires decision making, mentoring, and strong interpersonal skills. This position continuously requires teamwork, customer service, creativity, use of discretion and problem analysis.
