Head of Anesthesiology is responsible for the efficient operation of anesthesia services. Develops, implements, and maintains anesthesia procedures and practices. Being a Head of Anesthesiology works closely with hospital staff, department directors, and physicians to ensure the highest standards of quality and service are maintained. Manages a staff of anesthesia technicians and nurses. Additionally, Head of Anesthesiology requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a top management. The Head of Anesthesiology manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Head of Anesthesiology typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     What You Will Do

    Ascension St. Vincent's,in conjunction with Eastern Pulmonary and Sleep, is looking for Board Certified/Board Eligible Critical Care Physicians for our Intensivist team at St. Vincent's East.

     

    This is a great opportunity for the right candidate to partner with Ascension St. Vincent's to provide medical services to patients.

     

    Position Highlights:

    • SICU (14), MICU (12), CICU (12), CVICU (8), RCU (8) capping service at 25 – 30 patients
    • High acuity ICU with advanced Cardiac: Impella, IABP, ECMO, proning for ARDS, SLED, CRRT
    • Strong program in noninvasive ventilation, utilization of latest ventilator models

    You will be employed by the Ascension Medical Group, a division of Ascension Health, one of the largest not for profit acute care hospital systems in the country. 

     

    Overview:

    • Work as an integrated team of providers in conjunction with providers at Eastern Pulmonary and Sleep.
    • Provide procedural expertise in airway management, line placement and CV monitoring.  Expertise in ECMO desired.   
    • Rendering critical care services on behalf of patients in the ICU treating all patients consistently with established standards of care.
    • Provide leadership of daily ICU multi-disciplinary rounds and supervision of APPs during clinical shifts.
    • Actively participating in quality management activities including, but not limited to, the development and implementation of responsive, efficient treatment protocols for commonly treated conditions and evidence-based guidelines for morbidity and mortality reviews.
    • Actively participate in all medical and audit activities performed within the Hospital, including the Critical Care Program, including but not limited to, analysis of protocol outliers and inefficient outcomes.

    Licensure/Certification/Registration:

     

    Required Credential:

     

    Physician MD/DO with Prescriptive Authority and credentialed from the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

     

    Preferred Credential:

     

    Board Eligible/Certified in Anesthesiology and Critical Care with successful completion of fellowship training in Critical Care Medicine.  Must have a commitment to excellence in clinical service, be forward thinking and demonstrate problem-solving abilities necessary in this environment.

    Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).

     

    Education:

     

    Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO)
