Job Duties:

• Provides technical oversight to the following areas in Histology: Tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, coverslipping and case distribution.
• Perform duties in Histology during staffing shortages.
• Maintain quality assurance and quality control standards according to quality management policies and regulatory standards.
• Prepare staff schedules to ensure adequate staffing in the department.
• Prepare quality assurance reports for monthly and quarterly statistics.
• Procures appropriate supplies and equipment to maximize department efficiency and stays within established budgetary and quality goals including accurate monthly inventory.
• In collaboration with the Pathology Assistant Lead, maintain autopsy room functionality and compliance.
• Maintain safety and compliance standards within the department to comply with federal, state, local and regulatory agencies.
• Complete initial and annual competency assessments, and annual performance evaluations for department employees and provide performance feedback to employees.
• Conduct department meetings.
• Recruit and onboard new Laboratory Assistants, Histotechnicians or Histotechnician Trainees.
• Organize and maintain frozen section staining lines and equipment at satellite locations.
• Maintain equipment quality control and preventative maintenance for all Histology laboratory instruments.
• Prepare for regulatory inspection preparation and department compliance.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities for quality management as assigned by administration or pathologist.
• Use the document control system to maintain procedures when processes are implemented or changed.
• Serves as a technical resource for problem solving and process improvement to meet all quality goals for patient care. Investigates and documents non-conforming events as necessary.
• Oversee system validations for instruments and new technologies in the Histology lab.
• Notify the Laboratory Administrator for departmental issues that impact daily operations.
• Miscellaneous job duties as specified by the Medical Director, president, or administrators.
• Comply with HIPAA and HITECH regulations.

Skills Required:

• Excellent attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks.
• Ability to problem solve, prioritize work, and adapt to daily workflow adjustments.
• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with employees, pathologists, and administration.
• Ability to discern alpha-numeric sequences.
• Ability to lift/push/pull 25 pounds

Qualifications:

• Certification as an HT or HTL through ASCP
• 1 year of experience as a Histology Laboratory Supervisor
• A minimum of 5 years of Histology experience.
