Lactation Consultant provides lactation support and education to patients and families. May plan and lead breastfeeding classes for expecting mothers. Being a Lactation Consultant is responsible for identifying and correcting lactation problems, and advising physicians and healthcare providers on lactation problems experienced by patients. Requires an associate degree in nursing or equivalent. Additionally, Lactation Consultant requires Registered Nurse (RN) License. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.     Spectrum Healthcare Resources has an opportunity for a part time (civilian) Registered Nurse (RN) Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) at our Dumfries Health Center in support of Ft. Belvoir in Dumfries, VA.

     

    Job Details:

    • Part time - 20 hours/week (Monday-Friday 7:30AM-4PM); Flexible scheduling
    • Located in outpatient OB/GYN clinic

    Job Requirements: 

    • Education: Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN)
    • Experience: 2 years of experience as a lactation consultant and registered nurse (preferably in OB/GYN setting)
    • License / Certifications:   
        • Active valid and current RN License from any state
        • Possess a certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).
    • Active BLS certification
    • Must have knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in the use of basic word processing, data entry and automated medical records.  
    • Ability to develop lactation classes and support groups.

    Position Responsibilities:

    • Conduct group lactation/feeding classes
    • Provide resources and support to moms with lactation/feeding concerns
    • Be a resource to the OB/GYN healthcare providers
