Percussion Instrument Repairers and Tuners repairs percussion instruments, such as drums, cymbals, and xylophones. Removes drum tension rod screws and rods by hand or using drum key. Being a Percussion Instrument Repairers and Tuners may be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Requires 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Additionally, Percussion Instrument Repairers and Tuners is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision; typically reports to a supervisor or manager.     Salary Range

    $29.71 - $42.36 / hour

     The Instrument Technician position is considered safety sensitive work and if a job offer is accepted the applicant will be required to complete pre-employment drug and alcohol testing which will include cannabis testing.

    Summary

    Responsible for the set up, service and repair of all electronic instrumentation and related electromechanical or electrohydraulic apparatus used for operational and environmental monitoring and control of process equipment

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    The following examples of duties and responsibilities illustrate the general range of tasks assigned to the position but are not intended to define the limits of required duties.  Other essential duties may be assigned consistent with the general scope of the position. 

    • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on most plant electrical, instrument, and control system devices using established written procedures
    • Interpret technical drawings and procedures to aid in limited troubleshooting and repair of most electrical, instrument and control system equipment
    • Perform limited repairs and calibration of most control valves, actuators, positioners and in-line pressure regulators following established written procedures
    • Operate and maintain a variety of test equipment using established written procedures
    • Use computerized equipment and software to perform limited testing and troubleshooting procedures
    • Assemble and test experimental switch panels, solenoids, and other electrical equipment and components
    • Diagnose cause of electrical or mechanical malfunction or failure of operational equipment and perform preventative and corrective maintenance
    • Review and update loop diagrams and specification sheets as required
    • Capable of interpreting the NEC and ISA standards
    • May be assigned as a trainer for other entry-level technicians
    • Estimate, requisition and inspect materials as needed for assigned jobs under the direction of Supervision
    • Learn and follow plant procedures and safety regulations
    • Participate in design reviews and the management of change (MOC) process
    • Serve as an “on-call” technician during off-hours, weekends and holidays as part of the call-out rotation to perform limited troubleshooting and repair mechanical equipment

    Incumbents must have demonstrated knowledge and abilities in these areas.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  

    Education and/or Experience

    • Requires a minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent and three (3) to five (5) year related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Associate’s Degree preferred
    • Must be able to certify and maintain forklift certification 

    Computer Skills

    • Basic computer skills including functionality in Microsoft Office suite of applications

    Other Skills and Abilities

    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume and apply concepts of algebra and geometry
    • Ability to speak effectively in one-on-one or small groups
    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence effectively
    • Must be a team player and supportive and cooperative of management and corporate initiatives
    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variable in situations where only limited standardization exists

    These skills and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education, experience and training. This combination will provide the competence to perform the work of the position.
