    The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at University of New Mexico Health Sciences is accepting applications for an academic faculty forensic psychologist, suitable for appointment at the rank of Research Assistant Professor. This assignment will be through the department's Division of Forensic Behavioral Sciences. Broad based forensic skills to include knowledge of the law in relation to clinical practice are central to this position. This position will work extensively with criminal justice agencies and the New Mexico Human Services Division, delivering forensic behavioral health assessments and be responsible for a range of duties related to legal proceedings, including analysis of legal issues and how they stand within the legal jurisdiction in question, and using a research-based approach to answer legal questions or problems. This position will include a combination of clinical and educational activities to include supervision of forensic post-doctoral students, psychiatry residents, and participation in direct forensic services in the community.

    More specifically, roles and responsibilities of this position will be as follows:

    • Regarding education, the selected individuals will provide clinical supervision and didactic seminars in the area of Forensic Psychology to Psychology Interns, Post doctoral trainees, psychiatric residents and other trainees.
    • Applied forensic work will include, but are not limited to, service in a variety of treatment settings, including state detention centers and/or prison settings.
    • Scholarly activities as a forensic psychologist will include developing and maintaining an active publication agenda in the field of Forensic Psychology with the potential to obtain external funding and contracts specifically related to forensic psychology.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Doctorate degree - PhD, PsyD or JD/PhD or equivalent from an APA approved program;
    • Forensic Post-Doctoral experience - minimum 1 year;
    • Experience conducting forensic psychological evaluations;
    • Licensable in New Mexico;
    • Must be eligible to work in the United States.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Evidence of development of an active program of research and scholarly activity in the field of Forensic Psychology.
    • Bilingual Spanish speaking and writing.
    • Experience working with difficult and complex cases, to include work with major mental illnesses that are often complicated by histories of substance abuse and/or a history of trauma.
    • Experience with or commitment to working with marginalized populations.
    • Educational, teaching and supervision experience with trainees in multiple disciplines.
    • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
