Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students. Director, Kitty Degree School Of Nursing -Assistant/Associate Professor

  • The Director of the Kitty DeGree School of Nursing, who holds a doctoral degree in nursing or a related discipline, is responsible to the Dean of the College of Health Sciences (CHS) for the administration of the nursing program(s) and for all areas related to the administration of the school.  The Director holds faculty rank in the School of Nursing

    • Provides leadership and vision to the School as it relates to the profession of nursing on a national, state, and local scope.  In so doing, the Director must maintain membership in nationally and internationally recognized professional nursing organizations that direct and influence the nursing profession.  Attendance and participation in these organizations is crucial to maintaining a current curriculum and fully understanding trends and changes in the many aspects of the profession.
    • Maintains a collegial relationship with the Louisiana State Board of Nursing and attends meetings of the Board. Attendance at these meetings provides the Director with current information about and the ability to influence the status of nursing education and practice in the state.
    • Maintains membership in other professional nursing organizations in order to maintain expertise in the chosen area of practice.
    • Provides oversight for all aspects of the following internal structures:
    1. The traditional baccalaureate nursing program
    2. The RN to BSN option
    3. The LPN to BSN option
    4. The Masters Programs
      1. CNL Track
      2. FNP Track
      3. AGPCNP Track
    5. Development of Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)
    6. The Continuing Education Program for Registered Nurses
    7. Alumni Relations
    8. The Advisory Council
    9. Faculty onboarding, development and evaluation
    10. Verify faculty credentialing is completed in compliance with standards.
    • Provides oversight for the following external activities:
    1. Contracts for clinical affiliations with hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, home health agencies, day care centers, senior centers, public health departments, and other community agencies providing the experiential components of the curriculum.
    2. Contracts with preceptors for students in the senior year of the professional program when appropriate.
    • Manage the KDSON academic budget and ensure individual programmatic needs are met.
    • Interactions with the accrediting body (AACN/CCNE) for the KDSON to assure alignment/compliance with all Standards and Essentials relating to the operations and the curriculum of the School.
    • Interactions with the Louisiana State Board of Nursing to assure alignment/compliance with all rules and regulations relating to the operations and the curriculum of the School.
    • Submission of reports and survey data to state and national agencies.
    • Participates as a member of the College of Health Sciences Administrative Council (CAC).
    • Represents the School of Nursing, the College of Health Sciences and the University to the community of health care providers and other communities of interest at the local, state and national levels.
    • Works with the Dean of CHS to promote fund raising activities for the School of Nursing.
    • Serves as Chairperson of the Kitty DeGree School of Nursing Administrative Council
    • Serve as a substitute instructor if needed
    • And all other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).
    • An unencumbered RN license in Louisiana (or eligible for Louisiana licensure). 
    • Holds a master’s degree in nursing.
    • An earned doctorate with a minimum of five years collegiate teaching experience in an undergraduate or graduate nursing program(s) at a four (4) year institution.
    • A minimum of three years of successful senior academic nursing management experience in an undergraduate or graduate nursing program(s) at a four (4) year institution and a minimum of five years of clinical practice.  
    • Academic credentials corresponding to an Associate Professor Tenure Track appointment. 
    • Demonstrate evidence of being a dynamic, creative, proactive, innovative and visionary leader with strong decision-making skills. 
    • Demonstrate evidence of sound academic and fiscal planning and management skills.
