Develops and implements appropriate course work, activities, and assessments. Being a Teacher Vocational Education evaluates and monitors student's performance, and helps students identify and pursue personal goals. Assesses and documents students' progress. Additionally, Teacher Vocational Education typically requires a bachelor's degree. Requires a state-specific vocational teaching license. Typically requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Typically reports to a principal. The Teacher Vocational Education occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. TEACHER OF THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED

  • THE TEACHER MAY BE REASSIGNED TO WORK AT OTHER SCHOOLS WHERE IDENTIFIED VISUALLY IMPAIRED STUDENTS ARE ENROLLED.

    The duties include but are not limited to:

    • Establishes objectives and plans learning experiences.
    • Implements activities using a variety of techniques that utilize instructional time to meet objectives.
    • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
    • Exhibits positive human relations skills.
    • Evaluates the educational program and/or student progress.
    • Communicates with parents/guardians, colleagues, and community groups.
    • Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication.
    • Maintains and submits records and reports.
    • Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policies, and state and federal rules and regulations.
    • Engages in personal professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership.
    • Manages integrated therapy, self-contained classroom instruction, and inclusive instruction.
    • Works collaboratively and cooperatively with local school administration, teachers, and paraprofessionals.
    • Schedules eligibility/initial Individual Education Program (IEP) meetings as needed.
    • Maintains special education records/SETS reports.
    • Supervises Special Education Paraprofessionals as needed.
    • Completes Data Verification forms as needed.
    • Monitors and reports data for tracking systems.
    • Performs such other duties as assigned by the Special Education LEA, Special Education Resources Teachers or school system administrators.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Must have an Appropriate Alabama Teaching Certification in Special Education with an endorsement in Visual Impairment (0G6).


    SALARY: As per State Matrix, depending on degree and experience. Bachelor's beginning pay: $44,225.00


    **Applicants selected for certified positions must have undergone an ABI/FBI criminal history background check (fingerprinting administered through sites selected and approved by the MCPSS and State of Alabama Education Department) and been declared suitable and fit to teach under state law. Applicants selected must also pass a drug-screening test via forms provided by Human Resources during the selection process.**
