SUMMARY: CAP seeks an experienced Accounting Supervisor to perform diverse accounting functions including financial statement reporting, account reconciliations, variance analyses, budget work and providing backup and training to department staff. Supervises and evaluates the work performance of Staff Accountant.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
·Prepare and review consolidated financial statement package.
·Prepare and review notes for parent company.
·Assist in analyzing financial statement variances for the parent company, subsidiary and/or affiliated entity as assigned.
·Assist in the preparation of subsidiary’s statutory filings as assigned.
·Prepare and review monthly cash close and quarterly entries and analyze budget variances as assigned.
·Review and oversee publication of monthly budget and vendors reports.
·Prepare and review certain portions of the Executive Detail Reports as directed by the Controller.
·Collaborate with other departments during the annual forecast/budget process.
·Create and maintain reports in Analytics Maestro.
·Assist in interim and year-end audit.
·Supervise/manage Staff Accountant’s tasks including, but not limited to:
·Develop efficient workflow and review monthly and quarterly balance sheet reconciliations.
·Assist the Assistant Controller/Controller in technical accounting research, interpretation, and memo writing, including the implementation of new accounting standards as applicable.
·Assist in project management tasks as assigned related to process improvement and system upgrades and implementations,
·Assist the Assistant Controller/Controller in constant improvement of processes by monitoring and analyzing department work to develop more efficient procedures and maximize use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
·Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
·Bachelor’s degree in accounting
·Five years accounting experience
·Experience in accounting standards research and implementation
·Financial reporting or audit experience preferred
·Insurance industry experience preferred
·Statutory accounting principles experience preferred
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
·Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
·Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks
·Working knowledge of computers, MS Office (excel), and accounting software
·Solid understanding of financial accounting principles (GAAP), including revenue recognition, lease accounting, expense allocation and asset valuation
·Working knowledge of corporate accounting practices, including intercompany transactions and consolidation
·Ability to help streamline processes and improve department scalability
·Ability to work both independently and as a team
·Ability to work overtime when necessary
·CPA or working towards CPA, strongly preferred
