    JOB SUMMARY:

    At BBBSPS, our team strives to sponsor and promote innovative partnerships between youth, volunteers and the community. The Youth & Activity Specialist is responsible for developing and leading engaging activities and events to groups of student youth and their adult mentors. They support the creation and updating of curriculum to engage matches in topics including career readiness, the intersections of STEAM and SEL, a path for the future. The Youth & Activity Specialist supports the Youth Mentees and Mentors and the goals of the Site Based program.   


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Research and present activities to the Program Manager for monthly schedule development. Activities may include using a variety of techniques, including lectures, projects, exhibits, audiovisual and library resources, computers, and the internet.  
    • Use motivational techniques to encourage teamwork, cooperation, self-esteem, self-confidence, decision making and problem solving of participants. 
    • Lead and flawlessly execute monthly activities for all Amazon Bigs in Tech program participants. 
    • Provide instruction and monitor youth participants; maintain order during activities/games by counseling youth with behavioral challenges; document and report interaction; recommend disciplinary action as needed.  
    • Capture and review ongoing feedback to build a culture of continuous improvement. 
    • Prepare, modify, and maintain written reports and/or financial and statistical reports and provide regular updates regarding program participants to the Program Manager or Chief Program and Impact Officer as requested and/or needed. 
    • Research, contact and arrange engaging monthly match activities for agency matches across all age groups.  
    • Build a mechanism to communicate, capture interest and enrollment in monthly match activities.  
    • Work with corporate partnerships team to build a sponsorship model for monthly match activities. 
    • Reach out to vendors, partners and organizations suitable for monthly match activities and coordinate schedules so that there is an annual calendar with activities planned at least 6-9 months in advance.  
    • Build budget for all match activities – maximizing BBBSPS investment for maximum value.   
    • Provide data, photos, and anecdotes for social media and grant-writing/reporting. 
    • Interpret, implement, and ensure compliance with the BBBSPS Program standards. 
    • Participate in the development of and/or recommend new policies and procedures to enforce and/or revise program activities, goals, and objectives. 
    • Perform other duties as assigned to support others and ensure an efficient and effective work environment.  
    • Develop, plan, and implement safe and appropriate youth program curriculum and activities, with a focus on STEAM Learning Standards for middle school age students. 

    Requirements

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelors degree with preference given to human services, education or similar; or Associates Degree with 4 years of relevant experience; or 8 years of relevant work experience. 
    • Comfortable and energized by engaging small and large groups of mixed age participants.  
    • Access to a reliable automobile, valid driver’s license, auto insurance required. 
    • Willingness and ability to demonstrate a commitment to support the organization’s efforts to advance justice, diversity, equity and inclusion. Must be comfortable working with a range of races, gender identities, sexual orientations, religious beliefs, languages, and socio-economic backgrounds. 
    • Able to work independently exercising good judgment, decision-making and problem-solving skills. 
    • Able to succeed in a fast-paced environment required. 
    • Able to facilitate trainings and workshops with large groups. 
    • Able to work with confidential information required. 
    • Available to work evenings and weekends as needed. 
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills reflecting solid customer service both in-person and via the telephone. 

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    • 50% of time will be at schools and partner sites working directly with Youth and Volunteer Mentors. 
    • Routine office environment weekly. 
    • Frequent independent travel. 
    • Physical demands: While performing duties of job, employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Employees must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 
    • Work environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. 
    • 50% of work will be spent on the phone or email contacting program participants, reviewing and updating curriculum, and prepping for sessions.
