Actuarial Services Director directs the activities of an organization's actuarial function. Oversees the analysis and evaluation of potential risks to determine the financial impacts of new or existing insurance plans. Being an Actuarial Services Director develops policies, procedures, and formulas to guide statistical analysis and actuarial research and evaluate the likelihood and financial impact of various risks. Designs processes and guidelines to ensure regulatory compliance of products and financial operations. Additionally, Actuarial Services Director leads the design and development of insurance products by evaluating and approving insurance rates, premium levels, and rating systems and structures. Oversees the preparation of actuarial reports, financial statements, and regulatory filings and develops financial budgets, forecasts, and other financial projections. Researches and selects major rating assumptions to support accurate statistical analysis and evaluates the effectiveness of existing formulas. Evaluates product performance against established profitability targets and recommends modifications. Applies knowledge of mathematics, probability, statistics, principles of finance and business to calculations in life, health, social, and casualty insurance, annuities, and pensions. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require Associate of Society of Actuaries (ASA). May require Fellow of Society of Actuaries (FSA). Typically reports to senior management. The Actuarial Services Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be an Actuarial Services Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     What You Will Be Doing:
    The Commercial Director will bring a combined technical knowledge of industrial commodities with strong business development and marketing skills, and will:
    • Drive increased profitability by effectively managing all available resources and drawing on his/her proven commercial experience.
    • Understand relevant supply chains and how to extract opportunities for further integration, consolidation and customer value creation.
    • Develop and strengthen relationships with existing customers.
    • Lead and support commercial opportunities to improve and drive growth of our operations and services.
    • Prepare and submit proposals to current and potential customers.
    • Negotiate rate and contract renewals.
    • Prepare targeted market and commodity strategies in conjunction with senior leaders.
    • Communicate and sell our transportation, material handling, and logistics services through customer visits to both former and potential new accounts.
    • Support the development of existing and potential assets through the negotiation of complex commercial proposals with relevant customers, and transportation partners (i.e., rail, trucking, terminals, marine, etc.).
    • Perform business analysis to enhance and improve commercial structures of existing businesses.
    • Perform market, industry, and customer research to be used in organic and acquisitive efforts.
    • Drive commercial analysis, and insights and provide recommendations to leadership.
    • Collaborate on customer plans and manage customer relationships.
    • Support the annual business plan and budget preparation process.
    • Listen to and understand customer needs/problems and convert them into viable opportunities.
    • Network and bring an established network of contacts to aid in business growth.
    • Attend industry-related conferences and other industry functions to maintain customer relationships and improve networking.
    • Work and collaborate with operations regularly to ensure our commercial efforts are in alignment with operations.
    What You Need To Be Successful:
    • Have solid commercial or business development experience in one or more of the following industries: logistics and transportation, railroads, oil refining, dry/liquid bulk commodities, ports and terminals, chemical plants, aggregates, etc.
    • Ability to demonstrate a proficiency and understanding of industrial markets and related supply chains.
    • Have a current network of industry contacts and continually build on that network.
    • High business acumen, highly analytical, and experience finding, synthesizing, and presenting information.
    • Be results-driven, self-motivated, creative, and strategic, and able to manage time effectively.
    • Be able to identify market or customer-specific supply chain needs and create solutions that result in business opportunities for Savage.
    • Be passionate about the work and success of the company, Team Members, and customers.
    • Always demonstrate a sense of ownership and urgency.
    • Have excellent planning and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and carry critical projects to completion.
    • Have strong communication and presentation skills both in an internal company setting and in a customer setting.
    Preferred Education/Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field (MBA preferred).
    • Eight (8) or more years of related work experience.
    • Experience working in a commercial/business development role in or as a supplier to refineries, terminals, chemical plants, and other industrial facilities.
    Physical Requirements:
    • Work is in a professional office environment but will require frequent in-person interactions at industrial port facilities.
    • Must have the ability and willingness to perform the essential physical functions of the position.
    • Requires regular travel, with heavier traffic cycles during busier times. (Principal travel in USA with potential occasional travel to other locations in North America (Canada / Mexico).
