May be responsible for collecting patient payments and/or arranging patient transfer. Additionally, Admitting/Discharge Clerk typically requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Admitting/Discharge Clerk gains or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Works under moderate supervision. Maintains accurate and complete records; registers walk-ins and drop-ins for lab; answers phones and reads lab reports; receives blood specimens and keys in with requisition; verifies patient name, medical record number and FIN; registers and/or orders tests as necessary and prints specimen labels; accurately labels specimens according to laboratory policy ensuring positive specimen identification at all times; delivers specimens to appropriate laboratory section; receives patient in LIN using appropriate client code; delivers specimen labels to phlebotomist section for sample collection; produces paperwork and packing slips using the Laboratory Information System (LIS); packs samples according to packing list sequence; sends to appropriate referral laboratory; prepares various reports throughout shift to verify collection status, duplicate orders, and fax status; reviews outpatient orders using LIS and faxes reports upon completion; maintains clean, neat and efficient work area; abides by and enforces all compliance requirements; adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards; responds to overhead pages; regular and prompt attendance and the ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; related duties as required.
