Position Offered: Apprenticeship Teacher Advisor (0828)

Job Description: The Apprenticeship Advisor will build relationships and leverage industry connections and partnerships to identify target industry sectors for the expansion of new private and public registered apprenticeship programs in non-traditional industry sectors. The advisor will conduct outreach and labor market research with a focus on creating apprenticeship opportunities for LA Unified adult and high school students. The advisor will also identify and leverage existing adult education programs to develop new strategic partnerships with LA Unified divisions, high schools, private employers, and public organizations for the creation of new registered apprenticeship programs. The advisor will prepare and write required documents for the Board of Education’s approval of department grants, contracts, MOUs, and amendments. The advisor will serve as the liaison to the Division’s Apprenticeship department and will receive administrative direction from the Division’s Central Office Administrator overseeing Apprenticeship Programs and/or designee and will work with the apprenticeship staff who will identify priorities and provide support and direction.

Salary: The salary will be based on the current negotiated Teacher Hourly Rate schedule.

Duties:

· Prepare and write Board of Education documents required for approval of department grants, contracts, amendments, and MOUs with external apprenticeship partners.

· Provide case management services that increase student retention leading to the successful completion of the L.A. Unified pre-apprenticeship and/or apprenticeship program(s).

· Conduct presentations to LA Unified adult and high school students, private employers, and public entities on the benefits and opportunities of pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeships.

· Ensure students’ successful transition from recruitment to school-based subject matter experts for completion of the formal on-boarding process including intake, standardized assessments, and class programing.

· Engage in promotion, outreach, and recruitment activities to identify students ready for enrollment into newly established pre-apprenticeship and/or apprenticeship training program(s).

· Coordinate with local Workforce Development Boards for co-enrollment and supportive services for newly registered apprentices.

· Develop and coordinate strategic efforts to identify workforce shortages and in-demand occupations utilizing labor market research data to create new apprenticeship training programs for LA Unified adult and high school students.

· Work with the Division of Apprenticeship Standards, single and/or multi-employer organizations, and LA Unified staff to develop new registered apprenticeship programs.

· Develop curriculum for new apprenticeship programs.

· Create, update, and maintain budget allocations and expenditures pertaining to new apprenticeship programs.

· Develop partnerships with Community of Schools’ Directors, high school principals, and secondary counselors to connect LA Unified high school students to adult education programs for registered apprenticeships.

· Participate in Apprenticeship department strategic planning meetings and outreach activities.

· Create and maintain a timely database of partnerships and activities pertaining to the development timeline of new registered apprenticeship programs.

· Represent apprenticeship programs at community-based organizations which may include job fairs, community events, conference events, and other outreach activities.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

· Valid California Career Technical Education (CTE) Credential authorizing assignment to teach adults.

· Valid California driver's license and the ability to travel to multiple locations throughout the District.

· Earned bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Highly motivated self-starter to develop new partnerships leading to registered apprenticeship programs.

· Experience writing grants and formal reports utilizing proper writing principles, grammar and punctuation.

· Ability to meet strict deadlines.

· Knowledge of entry requirements for student placement into registered apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs.

· Work with various public agencies and /or private organizations.

· Experience working with state registered apprenticeship programs.

· Experience in career technical education and curriculum development

· Proficient in planning, organizing, establishing priorities, and managing time with minimum supervision.

· Knowledge of WorkSource Center programs.

· Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment.

· Proficient with Microsoft computer applications.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills.

· Bilingual – Spanish language
