Overview 

• The Export Logistics Specialist will serve as a helpful, intuitive, value-adding, and enthusiastic liaison between PADNOS sales teams and third-party drayage carriers or steamship lines. This position is responsible for quoting and scheduling all export shipments with internal and external carriers, identifying rate improvements, and collaborating with steamship lines and freight forwards to ensure timely deliver of PADNOS scrap.

Accountabilities

Schedule and Execute Outbound Loads

• Collaborate with Sales Coordinators ensure timely fulfillment of sales, as scheduled.
• Ensure level and balanced shipping schedule and material flow to promote yard efficiency.
• Participate in weekly order status and production planning meetings.
• Coordinate delivery windows with customers.
• Leverage relationships with steamship lines and freight forwarders to execute timely shipments.
• Perform variable shipment processes depending on the type of shipment (CIF vs Ramp).
• Request and manage bookings and rail appointments.
• Submit AES documents and insurance.

Maintain and Promote Carrier Relationships

• Conduct routine carrier visits, identifying and nurturing carrier growth opportunities.
• Negotiate spot lane rates, routinely quoting frequently-shipped lanes to identify lowest cost carrier.
• Identify ideal carriers for requisite lanes, quoting business frequently and managing costs.
• Hold carriers accountable for on-time delivery and departure.
• Manage internal chassis fleet with internal carriers.

Manage Payments to Carriers

• Enroll all carriers in carrier payment system and train carriers to submit invoices in accordance with documented process.
• Manage payment exceptions and approve as necessary.
• Manage mismatched freight plans and assign freight to transactions as appropriate.
• Negotiate freight rates and maintain thorough knowledge of lane costs.

Outcomes 

• Timely order completion.
• On-time pick up and delivery rate that achieves established expectations.
• Level and balanced shipping execution that does not exceed shipping window thresholds.
• Produce logistical results of > 95% planned shipments vs actual.
• Maintain zero mismatched freight plans greater than 90 days.
• Identify highest scoring carriers, based on cost, quality of service, and reliability.
• Daily management of carrier payment system.
• Achieve carrier recruitment, visit, and development objectives.
• Schedule loads within X hours of submission.
• Maintain a count of carriers per lane above required threshold.
