    Donor & Corporate Relations Manager

    The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts is seeking a full-time Donor and Corporate Relations Manager to implement strategies for direct fundraising growth through individual, corporate, membership, and foundations. The role will be centered around developing new relationships and managing an assigned portfolio of patrons and prospects as well as cultivating these relationships as outlined.

    The ideal candidate will be a strong multitasker, have outstanding communication, interpersonal, and research skills, work well under limited supervision, and be extremely organized.

    The Donor and Corporate Relations Manager must be creative and enjoy working within a small, collaborative arts-based environment that is mission and results driven and community oriented.

    Who We Are

    The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts (KIA), is located in the heart of downtown Kalamazoo, Michigan. The mission of the KIA is to promote and cultivate the creation and appreciation of the visual arts in West Michigan. We believe the arts are for everyone; they inspire, fulfill, and transform.

    As the largest fine art museum and community-based art school in the region, the KIA provides access to art and art making experiences not otherwise available. The KIA holds more than 5,000 fine artworks in its permanent collection; presents touring and collection exhibitions in 10 galleries; offers four terms of art classes at the Kirk Newman Art School across various disciplines; and houses the KIA Gallery Shop, featuring artwork by local artists and international artisans; as well as an Art Library. Our exhibitions and programs are designed to appeal to diverse, intergenerational audiences through broad representation, engaging content, and strong partner collaborations.

    This year, the KIA has begun its Centennial celebration with various special exhibitions, events, and programs to commemorate its 100th anniversary.

    What You’ll Do

    Reporting directly to the Director of Advancement, the Donor and Corporate Relations Manager, who is preferably based in Kalamazoo County will:


    • Be a key partner with the Director of Advancement and work collaboratively within the Advancement Team and other departments to bring awareness to KIA’s mission and programs and events.

    • Develop outreach strategies with the Director of Advancement to identify new prospects and engage existing donors, helping to meet fundraising goals.

    • Secure sponsorships for exhibitions, programs, events and manage ad sales and corporate partnerships.

    • Cultivate and grow individual memberships, business and nonprofit partnerships, individual and corporate sponsorships in support of KIA Arts Fair and KIA community events, exhibitions, and educational programs.

    • Create and maintain an annual giving schedule with “best practices” to effectively manage the stewardship and cultivation of donors in a timely and organized manner.

    • Develop proposals and requests to individuals, corporations and selected foundations.

    • Collaborate on production, research, materials, designs and communications to be implemented for the fundraising and marketing activities associated with the aforementioned patron/donor giving cycles.

    • Re-engage and cultivate lapsed supporters, helping to build and strengthen relationships.

    • Build on the existing Annual Fund giving campaign in conjunction with other Advancement team members.

    • Assist the Director of Advancement in planning and implementing campaigns and cultivation events as needed.

    • Spearhead and update the recognition of donors within the Annual Meeting, KIA Donor Boards, Annual Report and other creative ways to show our appreciation.

    • Participate in local community, networking events, and associations that will help build positive relationships and a strong connection with the KIA.

    • Ensure proper sponsorship recognition, notification and track implementation of sponsorship benefits.

    • Maintain accurate donor, prospect, member records, contact reports and constituent transactions via Altru (CRM) database.

    • Work with the Advancement team to plan, produce, and host special events and fundraisers that involve members, donors, sponsors and prospects.

    • Facilitate member renewals and messaging, working with Membership Associate position.

    • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual fundraising reports and tracking documents for giving categories and Advancement priorities as needed and through the direction of the Director of Advancement and Executive Director.

    • Attend donor events of the museum as requested.


    • This is not an exhaustive list of responsibilities as other relevant duties may be assigned by the Director of Advancement.

    Who You Are & Keys to Success (the must-haves)

    To be successful in this job, you will excel in these areas:


    • Fundraising: You have a solid background in the fundamentals of fundraising including prospect identification and management, solicitation design, and working with volunteer leadership and training staff. You have experience with public-facing programs and fundraising events. You are comfortable making an ask at significant levels of support.

    • Project Management skills: You stay on top of multiple projects simultaneously, plans backwards, anticipates obstacles, identifies and involves stakeholders appropriately, uses resources wisely, completes work by due dates.

    • Interpersonal & Negotiation Skills: You have strong interpersonal skills for building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders of the KIA. You can collaborate diplomatically, effectively, and successfully with peers, external volunteers, vendors, and donors.

    • Office Technologies: You have high-level proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, SharePoint) and Adobe (Acrobat), as well as Google Suite (Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, Google Forms), and able to quickly adapt to new technologies.

    • Knowledge of and Commitment to IDEA Principles and Practices: You understand structural inequalities, recognizes race, gender, other identities, intersectionality, knowledge of how to build trust with individuals who are different from yourself, is driven to improve conditions, and proactively learns re: race, equity, and identity

    • Results-orientation: You have a track record of achievement and producing results

    • Experience: You have four (4) to six (6) years of increasing responsibility in development, membership, marketing, or donor stewardship experience and proven success with nonprofit fundraising. You have experience working under pressure and managing multiple, competing tasks and priorities. You have experience with constituent relation management (CRM) database such as Altru, Raiser’s Edge or Common Ground, relationship management experience, and a bachelor’s degree is preferred.

    The position is full-time and is based in Kalamazoo County. The role requires occasional attendance at community events, extended workdays and periodic irregular work hours. You will work in a well-lit, pleasant, collaborative, shared office space.     The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $70,000, with starting rate based on experience and internal pay equity. The KIA offers compensation and a benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term and short-term disability, and retirement program with employer contribution available at the completion of 12 months of service, paid time off including annual vacation, sick and personal leave, flexible and hybrid schedule 12 museum holidays, 2 floating holidays, discounts in the Museum’s Gallery Shop, a household membership, and courses through the Kirk Newman Art School.
