    Registered Nurse Flow Coordinator - Emergency Room 

    Full Time, 72 Hours Per Pay Period, Night Shift 

     

     

    At Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center we strive to provide outstanding patient care during emergent situations. The brand new State of the Art Emergency Department at our hospital consists of 50 beds for providing such care. Staff in our emergency department work in a very fast paced environment to quickly assess conditions and stabilize patients in life-threatening emergencies such as strokes, heart attacks or severe injuries as well as less urgent medical issues.

     

    Fort Sanders Regional has the longest running comprehensive stroke certification in the region, meaning that our ED is trusted to care for a large portion of the areas stoke patients.

     

    We use a innovative care model to drive ED flow that consists of RNs, LPNs, CNA/PCAs, and HUCs. Our Physician partners work very closely with the care team to provide exceptional service, for not only the patient, but also the team. The patients we care for typically have medical emergencies and acute care illnesses with occasional trauma. We are team oriented and work at a lively pace.     Position Summary:

    Facilitates safe and efficient patient flow through the ED. He/she will assist the charge nurse in delegating care to the ED patient care staff and assigning patients, ensuring that there is a balanced workload and tasks are delegated appropriately, utilizing and employing resources as needed to assure the quality and efficiency of patient care. Ensures the delivery of high quality patient care through the coordination of customer service and management of the ED. This position acts as a liaison to the ED medical staff, Hospitalist staff, ED Shift Leader, and House Supervisor to ensure that care can be delivered in an efficient and safe manner.

    Responsibilities

    • Serves as a liaison to the Triage and EMS RN. May provide across the room triage to patients received from EMS and facilitate physician MSE prior to assigning patient to ED Lobby.
    • Acts as a liaison to the ED medical staff regarding the plan of patient's care, aggressively updating and expediting the plan of care with the physicians.
    • Has the leadership ability to direct the ED patient care team members regarding prioritization and patient flow.
    • Assigns patients to rooms, including the utilization of ED Hold Area, Preferred, and Short Stay Unit.
    • Monitors ED room availability and turnover.
    • Assures that orders, specimen collection, and treatments are coordinated and performed in an efficient manner.
    • Acts as a liaison with other departments and checks the status and delays in ancillary services, including lab, radiology, pharmacy, and consults.
    • Coordinates admissions and transfers with House Supervisor if necessary.
    • Monitors patient tracking board and oversees accuracy of current data.
    • Provides assistance in seeing priorities for patient placement by establishing priorities for ED admits and discharges.
    • Continually communicates with the Shift Leader, Disposition RN, Results Waiting RN, Triage RN, and ED providers regarding changes in the status of the unit.
    • Huddles with ED physician at beginning of shift and regularly throughout shift.
    • Refers personnel conflicts to supervisor, manager, or director.
    • Supervises care given by non-professional personnel, providing instruction as needed.
    • Receives report from the previous shift of all patients and identifies special patient care needs.
    • Recommends staff assignments to provide optimal patient flow and customer satisfaction.
    • Identifies learning needs with staff.
    • Acts as a resource and facilitator in assisting staff nurses in their evaluation and assessment of patient needs.
    • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility while providing safe patient care.
    • Ensures the delivery of patient care through the coordination of customer service and the leadership and management of the Emergency Department.
    • Recognizes and effectively resolves conflicts and problem solves at time of occurrence.
    • Supports department leadership in patient and staff engagement including employee rounding, patient rounding, coaching, and staff accountability.
    • Demonstrates proficiency as defined in the unit specific competency standards.
    • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education:

    None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.

     

    Minimum Experience:

    Minimum of three (3) years clinical nursing with a least one (1) year in emergency services in an acute care facility.

    - BLS/ACLS/PALS

    - NIHSS

    - ESI 5-Level Triage

     

    Licensure Requirement:

    Valid Tennessee RN license.
