Position: Application/Data Systems Specialist
Position Purpose: Reporting to the Director of Technology designs, implements, documents, maintains, monitors, supports, integrates and trains on a variety of applications and databases. Provides technical support and coordination of associated and related applications and databases. In addition, provides creative solutions to developing processes and procedures that support staff and administrators to easily use applications and access data sets.
Essential Functions:
- Works across multiple departments to support various applications and associated databases.
- Works with users to assess needs and to assist with designing and implementing processes, procedures, reports, and solutions.
- Provides ongoing information system support and maintenance.
- Designs and/or assists with the design, implementation, documentation, monitoring, patching, upgrading and usage of applications and database systems to meet the needs of the district.
- Implements and/or facilitates the exchange of data (i.e. export-transform-load) between applications and databases as needed.
Additional Duties: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director of Technology and central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment: Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copy and fax machines, and telephones.
Travel Requirements: Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent written and verbal skills in large and small groups.
- Ability to work with multiple people across a number of different buildings and environments.
- Experience with report writing, importing and exporting data and writing queries.
- Experience with coding, scripting, and/or development preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of workflow, data and data exchange (import/export), data warehousing, enterprise resource management (finance/payroll/HR/AP/AR/etc) and office software.
- Advanced user of the Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent customer service skills regarding timeliness of response, meeting established quality standards of practice, and communication.
- Demonstrated ability to work with confidential data.
- Problem solving skills commensurate with the technical complexity of the problems in supporting multiple information systems and databases.
- Ability to work in an economically, culturally and racially diverse environment.

Qualifications:
- Valid Michigan Driver’s License.
- Two years of application support and/or database administration preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge/experience with information systems and/or relational databases required.
- Experience with MS SQL and MySQL preferred.
- Knowledge of core K-12 educational software such as student information systems, data and assessment packages, finance applications, etc. preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Two or more years experience and/or industry certifications may be used in lieu of degree.
