Description Primary Purpose: 

Instructional specialists will support all elementary and secondary school staff in the implementation of instructional best practices with a focus on mathematics. They will work directly with teachers to provide classroom-based demonstrations or modeling, collaborative and/or one-on-one support, and facilitate teacher inquiry with related professional development. 

Job Goal:

To increase student growth and performance in mathematics in all classrooms.

Qualifications: 

• Must possess a valid Texas Teacher Certification

Experience: 

Three years of successful teaching experience (preferably in math grades 5-Alg.I)

Special Knowledge/Skills: 

• Deep knowledge of instructional best practices within a classroom setting
• Working knowledge of TEKS Resource System
• Deep understanding of creating lesson plans, developing assessments and using resources to support student learning
• Interpersonal skills (communication, problem-solving, conflict management, collaboration) to share research-based instructional approaches with teachers and administrators
• Provide instructional recommendations, mentoring, and coaching to teachers and administrators 
• Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills
• Strong organizational skills

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Provide support and feedback to teachers on classroom instruction to ensure understanding of key concepts.
2. Assist teachers in aligning their instruction with appropriate standards, curriculum, and assessments in mathematics.
3. Model research-based instructional approaches and collaborate with the teacher to determine approaches that best meet the students’ needs in mathematics.
4. Observe the teacher as he/she implements changes in instructional approaches and provides feedback to the teacher.
5. Provide ongoing professional development to teachers in a school-based setting.
6. Provide assessment support to teachers through collaborative analysis of student work, formal, and informal assessments.
7. Serve as a resource to elementary and secondary interventionists and/or instructional coaches.
8. Support PLC teams as they monitor the progress of struggling students and offer suggestions for intervention to meet students’ instructional needs.
9. Facilitate collaboration among teachers where current research on effective instructional practice is read and discussed.
10. Participate in professional development for coaches, including peer observations, professional research, reading, and collaboration.
11. Exemplify high standards of ethical conduct according to District Policy. 
12. Support administrative policy. 
13. Represent the school system to the community in a positive and professional manner. 
14. Maintain a sincere, friendly attitude and positive working relationship with campus, district, and region personnel. 
15. Perform other duties as assigned.
