Applications Development Director directs all activities and develops policies and procedures related to the design, analysis, testing, coding, and implementation of applications. Enhances operations by establishing metrics, analyzing processes, and implementing standard methodologies, tools, and best practices to ensure high-quality deliverables. Being an Applications Development Director oversees review of development proposals, projects, timelines, resources, and costs. Develops feedback processes for peer reviews, code reviews, and design reviews. Additionally, Applications Development Director establishes a performance culture by incorporating individual and team coaching and mentoring to achieve excellence. May develop and manage outsourcing budgets, vendor relationships, or off-shore resources. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Applications Development Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be an Applications Development Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Rays for Rare, founded in 2017, is a dynamic nonprofit organization committed to providing vital support to medically fragile children and their families. We currently serve over 200 families with medically fragile children in our community, offering a wide range of services such as in-home support (house cleaning, lawn care, snow removal), family events, support groups, and advocacy. We are dedicated to expanding our reach and making a meaningful impact on the lives of those we serve.

    Position Overview:

    Rays for Rare is seeking a Director of Development to lead and manage our fundraising efforts and ensure the financial sustainability of the organization as we continue to expand. This is a new and critical role aimed at building and scaling our fundraising strategies to meet the increasing demand for our services. The Director of Development will work closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, and other staff members to identify and secure funding opportunities that support the organization's mission.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Fundraising Strategy & Planning: Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan to meet the organization’s short-term and long-term financial goals. Create strategies for individual donations, corporate sponsorships, grants, and special events.
    • Donor Cultivation & Stewardship: Build and maintain strong relationships with individual donors, foundations, corporate partners, and other stakeholders. Ensure timely communication and follow-up, demonstrating the impact of their support. Develop donor recognition programs to foster long-term engagement.
    • Fundraising Events: Lead and coordinate fundraising events, including planning, budgeting, logistics, and post-event evaluation. Engage and inspire volunteers, donors, and sponsors to maximize participation and contributions.
    • Board & Staff Engagement: Collaborate with the Board of Directors to leverage their networks for fundraising opportunities. Provide ongoing support and training for board members to help them fulfill their fundraising responsibilities. Work with staff to align fundraising efforts with the organization’s mission and goals.
    • Financial Management: Track and report on fundraising progress, ensuring that revenue targets are met. Manage the development budget and ensure that fundraising expenses are aligned with organizational priorities.
    • Grant Writing & Reporting: Identify and apply for relevant grants to secure funding. Prepare and submit high-quality grant proposals, reports, and budget documentation to ensure compliance and continued support.
    • Community Outreach & Networking: Represent Rays for Rare in the community and within professional networks to build awareness and support for the organization. Actively seek new partnership opportunities that enhance the organization’s capacity to serve families in need.Qualifications:
    • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, or a related field, with a proven track record of successful fundraising campaigns, major gifts, and grant writing.
    • Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages for diverse audiences. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with donors, volunteers, and partners.
    • Leadership: Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities, while also collaborating with staff and volunteers. Experience working with a Board of Directors and engaging community stakeholders.
    • Passion: A deep commitment to the mission of Rays for Rare and the families we serve, particularly those facing rare and complex pediatric health conditions.
    • Education: Degree in nonprofit management, public relations, or a related field is a plus.
