Applications Systems Analyst analyzes, designs, and troubleshoots an organization's information technology systems and processes to enhance efficiency, productivity, and effectiveness. Uses defined policies and procedures to evaluate and design new IT systems or enhance existing systems to integrate with current and future needs. Being an Applications Systems Analyst tests and evaluates the compatibility and integration of new systems with existing infrastructure, networks, and applications. Designs models and utilizes analysis and solution development methods, including process maps, flow charts, and diagrams. Additionally, Applications Systems Analyst supports management with project planning, risk assessment, and project tracking to deliver timely IT solutions within budget. May create coding and logic specifications for developers. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Applications Systems Analyst work is closely managed.     Description:
    A large healthcare organization is comprised of 3 hospitals, over 200 clinics, the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, the Private Diagnostic Clinics and the NUS Medical School .
    They provide IT support for all entities. They own all of IT for the organization including managing data centers, all operations, etc. Made up of roughly 1k employees, acting as the MSP for all things in their environment.
    As the client to is the healthcare system - there is no "down time" as they are a 24/7 operation. The 24/7 organization that supports is called Core Operations. The mission of the Core Ops group is to provide operational support and complete task based projects for the infrastructure. Initiatives of this group are to automate requests from their customers into a streamlined process- creating a system that can be fully functional and replicated across the infrastructure, provide escalated troubleshooting support as well as eliminate after hours calls to other team members.
    About two years ago, they built this team out with skill sets to cover six shifts, creating a truly cohesive, self-sufficient team to offer the best service to the organization and join together in the mission - advancing care together. The teams are made up of Network Engineers, Systems Engineers within multiple OS, DBAs, Storage/Backup Administrators, Virtualization SMEs and Duty Managers/Managers.
    The environment is made up of 6,000 servers - roughly 50% are Windows based. The majority of environment is made up of 2016 and 2019 servers with some legacy 2012 and new 2022 servers. They have EMC storage, HP Hardware and Cisco UCS in the environment as well. There are well over 100 applications in the environment that are hosted by the Core Operations team.
    The Core Operations team is seeking a Systems Administrator to function as a liaison between the Core Ops group and the business/application owners.
    Day in the life consists of:
    65% doing work for prep in bringing new applications, technologies into operations - building servers, customizing, working with other technicians to get these set up properly in the environment, documentation
    20% functional conversations with application owners/the business - how many cores a server has, what the memory should look like, what services should be stopped and started, alarming if the server goes down, and actions that need to be taken.
    15% server or infrastructure support - ticket work when needed to assist in the que.
    They will act as a functional administrator as part of their role is creating documentation for applications on how core operations will support it, best practices for the stop, start services, monitor for the server or application. This employee will be taking tickets via ServiceNow, and resolving issues. These issue will include troubleshooting Windows Server 2012-2022 issues, application, storage, and networking problems. Understanding of sub-nets and v-lans and how the server communicates to the network it would be helpful in this position. CCNA would be a nice to have. Ability to write scripts with PowerShell or Python to help automate tasks is important. They may help test, update, and work within security patches.
