Architect is responsible for performing design computations, compiling data, and completing rudimentary architectural assignments. Works from the designs of others to prepare sketches, preliminary drawings, and schematic designs. Being an Architect prepares project estimates and completes architectural plans/renderings following specific instructions. Prepares reports and specifications as requested. Additionally, Architect may participate in an architectural internship or professional development program. May be working towards obtaining architecture license. Requires a bachelor's degree in architecture. Typically reports to a manager. The Architect work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role.     We’re looking for a full-time, staff Architect, to join our Mason & Hanger team located in Virginia Beach, VA, Glenn Allen, VA, or Lexington, KY

    As the Architect, here’s the work you’ll do:
    • Ability to produce and direct others in production of drawings, details, BIM models, etc. Leads construction phase contract administration activities for architecture department on projects such as Submittals, RFIs, construction support, etc.
    • Marking-up and redlining drawings for others
    • Edit and check project specification
    • Main point of contact to clients for architecture department (meetings, conference calls, comment review/responses, etc.).
    • Coordinate construction submittals, RFI's, contractor questions and issues
    • Perform field inspections, measure and record as-built. Complying with data protection principles while handling personal, protected and / or Covered Defense Information on behalf of Day & Zimmermann. Data Handlers should be trained to follow documented policies, standard operating procedures and secure practices associated with protecting trusted employee and customer data
    This role is for you if you have these skills:
    • Ability to lead and direct others in production of architecture projects
    • Responsible as client facing representative of architecture department and begins to participate in business development activities. Ability to create and present ideas to clients in form of drawings, renderings, and other exhibits. Ability to coordinate and communicate with Architects both internally and externally.
    • Works with architects, engineering disciplines and project managers to ensure project scope is satisfied. Actively supports project manager and department leadership with design scope modifications for assigned projects. Actively manages project cost throughout the design. Ensures design constructability and coordination with other disciplines necessary for a successful construction project. Ensures all architecture CA responsibilities for project are handled successfully.
    • Will regularly function as the Responsible Architect of Record accountable for the technical sufficiency of some or all architecture department project deliverables – limits of responsibility to be determined in concert with more senior department leadership.
    • Must build trusted relationships with department through maintaining ownership for assigned work and delivering efficient and high quality results. Expected to be a proactive learner, seek out support when needed, identify expectations, check own work output against quality expectations, and pursue opportunities to grow technical capabilities. And, maintains professional humility and respect in partnership with all team members in pursuit of overall project success. Is expected to know their own technical limitations and proactively seek out support where needed while maintaining their lead role for the project. Ability to take direction and guidance from more senior staff within company. Ability to provide direction and guidance to less senior staff within department.     And if you have these qualifications:
    • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Architecture from an NAAB accredited school
    • 4 - 8 years (Positions are awarded based on staff competency, years of experience listed for reference only.)
    • NCARB & Active pursuit of LEED AP BD C certification preferred
    • Architecture License
    • Ability to obtain security clearance, Willingness to travel
    • Great attitude and team player.
    • Successful completion of drug and background screening process.
