Oneida Environmental (OE) has an opening for Architectural Historian for a multi-year project.
Location:
- Preferred: Louisiana or Jacksonville, Florida
- Would also consider: Other locations in the Southeast
Key Responsibilities:
- Interfacing with public and private sector clients to determine appropriate strategies for documenting and evaluating historic built environment resources based on applicable laws and regulations.
- Working with other disciplines, including archaeology, architecture, landscape architecture, planning, and engineering, to integrate the consideration of cultural resources into project development and execution.
- Lead field surveys, complete built environment documentation, and write technical reports.
- Direct project tasks and ensure successful project delivery,
- Conduct historic building and historic investigations for various federal, state, and local agency clients, as well as private organizations.
- Oversee the successful completion of projects through agency review.
- Adhere to safe practices in a field and office setting and participate in annual training and refreshers.
- Travel is expected as part of conducting cultural resources fieldwork, but, on average, this position would spend approximately 90 percent of the year in the field (In Southern LA).
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education/Experience:
- Masters degree in Architectural History, Historic Preservation, Public History, Architecture, or a related field.
- Bachelor's Degree in Architectural History, Historic Preservation, Public History, Architecture, or a related field with 2 Years of Experience.
- Meet the Secretary of the Interiors Professional Qualifications Standards for Architectural History.
- Familiarity with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
- Ability to complete Determinations of Eligibility and Findings of Effect for historic built environment resources.
- Availability to travel and possession of a valid drivers license.
- Ability to pass federally illegal drug test and criminal background checks.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1-4 years of experience producing and/or overseeing documentation of the historic built environment, ideally for compliance review.
- A clear understanding of the National Register of Historic Places eligibility criteria and evaluation of cultural resources and the laws and regulations governing them.
- Knowledge of documentation and reporting requirements for State Historic Preservation Offices regarding historic preservation.
- Understanding of field documentation methodology, including the use of digital data collection methods.
- Ability to use large format photographic equipment as needed.
- Demonstrable technical writing ability and experience editing the work of others.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced consulting environment with effective time management, multitasking, communication, and organizational skills.
Compensation Range:
- $26-34/ Hour (based on experience)
