Cristo Rey San Diego seeks a mission-driven, innovative, collaborative, student focused, and Community-centered Athletic Director to serve as a leader at Cristo Rey San Diego. The Athletic Director reports directly to the Dean of School Culture.
About the School:
Cristo Rey San Diego High School is the 37th school in a growing national network of Catholic high schools recognized for transforming Catholic education through a unique integration of rigorous academics, professional experience, and spiritual formation. Cristo Rey’s innovative model calls for our students to attend class four days per week and work in a professional setting five days per month through our Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP). While some of our students will enter high school below grade-level academically, it is the collective mission of our staff to ensure that our students gain admission to—and ultimately graduate from—college. In pursuit of that goal, Cristo Rey has a longer school day and an extended academic year, and our teachers innovate, plan, reflect, and practice so that they maximize their impact in the classroom.
The Position
Cristo Rey San Diego High School seeks an Athletic Director. The Athletic Director will create, coordinate, implement and evaluate the athletic program at Cristo Rey San Diego in accordance with the Student and Family Handbook and the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). The Athletic Director must also have the abilities to serve as a classroom teacher.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the athletic budget. Keep detailed records.
- Work closely with the school’s Business Manager to ensure fees (referee, rec, league, etc.) are paid following the appropriate processes.
- Making sure that all Certificates of Insurance (COI’s) are up to date with facilities utilized by the Cristo Rey Athletic Program and if COI’s are needed, request them through the Business Manager in a timely manner.
- Ensure the Cristo Rey San Diego High School Athletic Program meets all Frontier League, CIF regulations. Attend all CIF Frontier League mandatory events.
- Recruit, hire, and supervise all coaches. Ensure all coaches are properly orientated to CIF policies, procedures and expectations. Ensure all coaching staff is in compliance with CIF rules and procedures.
- Ensure all student athletes adhere to CIF guidelines, are medically cleared, and have signed athletic documentation, and have signed the Code of Conduct form. Keep record of all student athlete files.
- Ensure all student athletes are academically eligible to compete and are in good standing with the Corporate Work Study Program.
- Work closely with school administrators and the CWSP to develop and enforce an athletic/ academic/ CWSP code of conduct that is consistent with the goals of the Cristo Rey San Diego Athletic Program.
- Schedule and coordinate all athletic competitions.
- Establishing partnerships with neighboring facilities to schedule venues for most practices and all games.
- Coordinate with the Corporate Work Study Team to schedule all transportation to athletic games and competitions.
- Provide supervision for all home competitions.
- Ensure an accurate inventory of equipment, uniforms and materials.
- Communicate effectively with league athletic directors, faculty, staff, students and families. Respond to all athletic concerns.
- Plan an end- of- year sports banquet.
- Troubleshooting the day- to- day operations of the Cristo Rey San Diego High School Athletic Program.
- Actively model Cristo Rey San Diego’s values and mindsets and hold self and others accountable to maintaining high standards.
- Grow and enhance the athletic program at Cristo Rey San Diego by increasing participation and accountability of student athletes, team managers, and fans that supports the school- wide goal of retaining 90% of students.
- Teach between 2-4 classes as assigned by the Instructional Leadership Team.
- Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Dean of School Culture.
Physical Requirements
- Spend the majority of the day standing and/ or walking around, sit on an occasional basis
- Be mobile to, from, and within the office, as well as maneuver throughout the parish/school facility to attend meetings, briefings, and other work-related events
- Conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend meetings or events
- Walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks
- Walk on both even and uneven surfaces
- Ascend and descend stairs and ramps
- Kneeling or squatting, stooping, or bending while working with students
- Reach at, below, or above shoulder height with the dominant upper extremity; may require trunk or neck rotation to look back at the class
- Assist in moving children’s desks and chairs to change the layout of the classroom to influence the learning situation. It is occasionally necessary to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the office to classrooms. Carrying can be up to 200 feet and varies.
- Speak clearly so listeners can understand. Understand the speech of another person.
