    Position Overview:  The Assistant Athletic Director will be a dedicated individual committed to advancing the vision and mission of UCA.  This role will play a vital part in supporting our Junior High and High School athletic departments, promoting Christian values through sports, and contributing to the overall success and growth of our programs. The Assistant Athletic Director will have direct oversight of the Junior High athletic program while supporting the Athletic Director in all other aspects.  

     

    UCA recognizes administrators as an integral part of the 5-fold ministry given to the church in Ephesians 4:1-13.  As such, UCA administrators serve as ministers to help advance the mission and vision of United Christian Academy.

     

    Reports To:  Athletic Director

     

    Qualifications:

    • Must be a born-again Christian.
    • Must be a credible Christian role model whose godly lifestyle and character demonstrate obedience to God and the Holy Bible.
    • Must be able to support and comply with the school’s Statement of Faith, Statement of Conduct and Ministry of Teaching statement.
    • Possess strong Biblical knowledge, able to apply biblical principles to school instruction, administration, and athletic process.
    • Must be a member of an evangelical, Bible-believing church.
    • Must have an understanding of and commitment to UC Academy’s educational objectives and philosophy of education.
    • Must hold a Bachelor’s degree (required) from a four-year college or university in sports management, education, or related field.  A Master's Degree (MA) or equivalent is preferred.
    • Prior successful experience working in school administration and coaching positions strongly preferred.
    • Must have sufficient health and physical endurance to be able to complete the assigned responsibilities.
    • Demonstrated expertise in oral and written communication.
    • Must have proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.  LMS is highly recommended (E.g., PowerSchool/FACTS/Canvas)
    • Strong stance of empathy, acceptance, and growth mindset.
    • Ability to work independently with strong organization and time management skills.
    • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and engage respectfully with a variety of stakeholders.
    • Ability to collect, analyze, and disaggregate data to serve as the basis for appropriate strategies.
    • Proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues, including the ability to create and nurture a professional community of educators.
    • First Aid/CPR Certification.
    • TB clearance with the last four years.
    • Criminal Justice fingerprint 
    • Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986: An Eligibility Verification Form (I-9) will be required along with the supporting documents listed on the I-9 form.

    10. Maintains a lifestyle that promotes health and endurance necessary for the position.
    11. Maintains good attendance.

     

    Administrative Responsibilities

    1. Assist the Athletic Director in the day-to-day administrative tasks related to managing athletic programs, scheduling games, coordinating transportation, and maintaining records.
    2. Provide excellent oversight that leads the growth and continual improvement of the Junior High athletic program.
    3. Ensure compliance with school, league, and regulatory requirements for athletic programs, including eligibility, safety protocols, and certifications.
    4. Under the direction of the Athletic Director, supervises and evaluates all coaches with major focus of building rapport and buy-in for program growth.
    5. Collaborates with Junior High coaches to develop and implement programs that promote the holistic development of student-athletes, emphasizing character, leadership, and academic success.
    6. Coordinates and oversees Junior High athletic events, including games, tournaments, and special events, ensuring smooth operations and a positive experience for participants and spectators.
    7. Conducts quarterly coaches’ meetings.
    8. Completes quarterly coaching observations - assessing strengths/weaknesses to improve coaching strategies. 
    9. Ensures field/gym reservations are completed for practices and games.
    10. Collaborates with Junior High coaches on creating practice schedules.
    11. Works with the Athletic Administrative Assistant to arrange transportation for all Junior High away games.
    12. Prioritizes safety as a main objective for athletes and coaches, ensuring adherence to all medical and safety requirements.
    13. Fosters professional and positive relationships with parents and the broader community through effective communication, outreach initiatives, and participation in school events representing UCA and our cultural values.

     

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    1. Ensure that all aspects of the Junior High athletic department advance the vision, values, and philosophy of the school.
    2. Works with the Athletic Administrative Assistant in the preparation and verification of all athletic eligibility lists, ensuring all Junior High athletes are eligible, insured and have paid fees.
    3. Supervises Junior High athletic games and acts as the host to officials and visiting schools.
    4. Advises and ensures all Junior High coaches conform with CIF and/or league policies and regulations and with state and federal laws. Attends league and district meetings.  Ensures all Junior High coaches have successfully completed required training/orientation programs.
    5. Attends in-service meetings, league meetings, and other athletic meetings as required.
    6. Assists as back-up coach when needed.
    7. Conducts end of year evaluations of all Junior High coaches.
    8. Conducts end of year survey for all Junior High athletes, parents, and coaches.

     

    Academic Responsibilities

    The Assistant Athletic Director will be responsible for teaching one JH period and/or fulfilling additional duties in an academic role (E.g. Student Discipline, academic guidance, etc.)

    Work Schedule & Pay Scale: 

    • Academic school year plus 15 days
    • Full-Time equivalency: 1.15

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    Sitting (20%); Standing/Walking (40%), lifting (15%), climbing (5%), bending (10%), squatting (10%). Must be able to lift 20-45 pounds.

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    Work environment includes indoor and outdoor environments and office, field and gym settings. Floating desk assignment and/or shared office space may be required, moderate to high noise levels commensurate to athletic events and settings.
