Basic Function
The PA Office of Attorney General (OAG) is looking for a detail-oriented administrative professional to join the Criminal Prosecutions Section in Pittsburgh. The Criminal Prosecutions Section investigates and prosecutes various crimes including, but not limited to, homicides, sexual assaults, theft offenses, drug offenses, and crimes involving public officials. The Legal Assistant coordinates and supports the attorneys within the Criminal Prosecutions Section.
The work performed in this position is of moderate complexity and scope. The position is responsible for supporting attorneys in the processing of legal documents required through all stages of a criminal case. This includes data entry for new cases, filing of criminal informations/documents, obtaining discovery, organizing and redacting documentary evidence, tracking statistics related to cases handled by the section, assisting in preparing cases for trial, making travel arrangements, and closing case files upon completion.
The Legal Assistant will be expected to work with considerable independence, subject to the direction of an attorney who reviews the work for timeliness and accuracy. The position will often involve handling sensitive and confidential matters.The successful candidate must be self-motivated and able to identify issues and come to reasonable resolutions.
