Assistant Bookstore Director manages one or several activities related to the operation of a university/college bookstore. Purchases new books, coordinates the sale of used books, orders new inventory as needed. Being an Assistant Bookstore Director ensures that the textbook inventory is aligned with the needs and class schedule of the students. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Assistant Bookstore Director typically reports to a bookstore director. The Assistant Bookstore Director supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be an Assistant Bookstore Director typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.     Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa (CCCM) is a Jesus Formed Community on Mission. Community, Formation and Mission are the three main ways that we believe we are to live out our discipleship to Jesus. Through Gospel teaching, training, and resources, God’s people are enabled to take their discipleship into their own hands by living out the listening, serving and helping posture of Jesus in our church community.

     

    CCCM will be engaging in the mission of God to reach those who are far from God and his kingdom by engaging in spiritual formation, practicing the way of Jesus through the spiritual disciplines in community and putting the life of Jesus and the community of the spirit on display through non-threatening exposures to the Jesus community.     The ministry began with the church located in Costa Mesa, CA and has flourished and expanded into a multifaceted ministry, which includes Christian Schools, a Bible College, a School of Worship, Christian Radio Stations, Christian radio programs, Christian book distribution, and Christian bookstores. We are committed to God’s continued work through the ministry at CCCM

     

    The Chapel Stores mission is to provide doctrinally sound materials to our customers. We are committed to providing the highest quality books, Bibles, gifts and music available. The Chapel Store Clerk must have a Christ-like caring attitude and a genuine and biblical servants heart, with the ability to be empathetic, patient and compassionate to each customers needs. The Chapel Store Clerk must be knowledgeable about the books and merchandise carried in the store as well as creating a sense of welcome and hospitality while providing excellent customer service. You will be a minister of the Gospel by praying for and being a witness to those who come into the store. This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of CCCM. The successful candidate will be called by the Lord and have a strong and active relationship with Jesus. It is essential that your attitude and presence reflect the love of Jesus Christ.

     

     

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES / FUNCTIONS / TASKS

    • Agree with and live out the vision and values of CCCM as outlined in the Statement of Faith (www.cccm.com).
    • Be an example to those who you come in contact and serve with by exuding the love of Christ.
    • Understand that it is a privilege to serve the Lord in vocational ministry and that those who serve God on staff at CCCM are expected to embrace a high biblical, Christ-like standard of conduct and lifestyle, both public and personal.
    • Specific Responsibilities/Tasks:
      • Customer service
        • Cash register operation at Point of Sale
        • Assisting shoppers on sales floor (product knowledge and expertise, attentiveness to requests and needs, creating a welcoming and hospitable environment)
        • Answering telephone calls
        • Handling special orders which includes researching items using Bookstore manager, the Internet and industry contacts
      • Housekeeping
        • vacuuming, mopping, dusting, cleaning windows
        • sanitizing register, cash wrap area, back desk areas, doorknobs and shelves
      • Merchandising
        • Assist in the presentation, display, restocking of books and merchandise in the store

     

     

    Special Working conditions

    • Regular, Weekends and Evening work
    • Shift Work
    • Special Events

     

     

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

    • Strong computer skills in data base systems and/or point of sale systems, MS Outlook, Word, and Excel
    • Lightspeed POS experience preferred
    • Retail or customer service experience preferred
    • Excellent communication, teamwork and multi-tasking skills
    • Cash handling principles and practices

     

     

    PHYSICAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

     

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen to the needs and requests of customers and staff. The employee frequently is required to stand for extended periods of time; walk; bend; lift; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Specific hearing abilities required include soft and loud sounds.
