BASIC FUNCTION:   

The Assistant Controller is responsible for assisting in the oversight of the accounting group. Additionally, the Assistant Controller is responsible for streamlining various processes. The Assistant Controller should bring fresh, innovative ideas to the group and strive for consistent improvement by working with all departments in the organization. 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

            Reports to:   Controller

            Supervises:  No direct reports initially

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Works with the Director of Revenue Accounting, Manager of Car Hire and Switching and the Accounts Receivable Analyst to streamline daily and monthly processes.
2. Prepares various reconciliations and financial statements under the direction of the Controller and Chief Financial Officer.
3. Prepares various month-end general journal entries in a timely manner to ensure quick and accurate closing of the monthly financial statements.
4. Assists management and functional areas in achieving goals, executing strategy and meeting business needs.
5. Prepares other reports, projections and analysis as needed.
6. Maintains necessary level of confidentiality regarding various information.
7. Understands all functions of the Accounting Department and can perform them as necessary.
8. Performs back-up duties to Accounts Payable when necessary.
9. Performs back-up duties to all areas of Revenue Accounting when necessary.
10. Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education, Licenses/Certifications and Work Experience:

            Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.

            At least 2 years accounting experience preferred.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities, and Mental Requirements: 

• Ability to think outside the box in order to make processes more efficient.
• Possess a high level of analytical skills for detail-oriented work.
• Working knowledge of computer systems including Microsoft Office Suite, various accounting software and related systems.
• Knowledge of US GAAP accounting standards.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively verbally and in writing.
• Ability to prepare and file reports.
• Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with co-workers, management, and customers (internal and external).
• Team player with a high degree of professionalism.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

Constant (67 – 100%) viewing a computer and other types of close visual work, sitting, talking and hearing either on the telephone or in person and repetitive motion.  Occasional (10 - 33%) reaching, bending and lifting up to 25 pounds.  Must be able to sit for long periods of time at a computer terminal.  May be stressful at times due to multiple tasks to be completed and deadlines.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Duties are performed in an office setting and employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions and noise levels.
